Anybody use Electronic Hearing Protection?

I'd like to give it a try but don't know anything about it.  Any advice or good place to order from online?

I use Peltor Tactical 6s, with foam plugs as well.  The combo was a great one for me, especially at Bulletfest which is louder than loud.  If you crank up the volume on the muffs, they help you hear stuff through the plugs.

I love mine .... I have the Peltor ComTac, it has a radio interface.

The Tactical 6 and Tactical 7 are good, less expensive alternatives.

Most electronic protection only offers about 21 dB of protection. The bigger/better circumaural (mickey mouse ears) can run 28-30 db which is a huge huge difference. If you shoot big magnums indoors I would recommend using both EAR plugs (30db) plus muffs for another 30 db.

Outdoors with rifles I find that using either plugs or muffs works well for me. I use the electronic muffs made by Pro Ears - the Stalker models - and they're great. I can hear every footfall, every noise with amplified hearing but gun shots are suppressed just fine.

Harbor Freight has a decent mono model for $19.95.  Midway sells the same unit for $49.95.

Naturally the Peltor is much better.

I have tried the standard Peltor 6s, and own the Dillon Precision 6s.

I prefer the Dillons. They do not shut off completely. You hear the brass, the bolt, the "functioning" of the rifle. The Dillons "play" all the sounds, but at a lower volume.

The pair of standard 6s's shut off completely. I was not able to hear the rifle cycle.

Now, I am no expert. The standard 6s's might have had old batteries. There may be something wrong functionally with my Dillon 6s.

JM $0.02...

Paul pretty much summed it up.

I use the Peltor Tac6s....  I LOVE them.

When around loud guns, or indoors, I do find I need the extra foam plugs as well tho.  When I have foamies in, I cant tell I have the electronics..... so that doesnt work for me....  Where I love them is just regular outdoor shoots, or taking a class, because you can hear everything.... they ROCK!

I hate them for indoor use at a range.

But outside they are awesome, especially when you are taking or teaching a course.

I agree about using both plugs and muffs, however, I do not believe the DB reduction levels are necessarily additive.
