I have several polo style shirts that are embroidered on the left chest.  After a couple of washings the embroidery gets a funky crease or wave to it.  Is it possible to iron this area somehow?  Some shorts are the newer silky nylon material that cannot be ironed without melting.  I thought about lining it with a towel and ironing over that, but I'm not sure the heat would actually get to the embroidered area enough.

You say shirts in one place and shorts in another.

Which is it? (either can be a typo for the other)

Shirts, mostly polo style.  I think I found my own answer though.  They make a thing called an ironing mat or something that you iron over to prevent scorching the garment.  I think I'll just give it a try with a cotton dish towel and see what happens
