Just got an email from a director reiterating the company policy on firearms.  SOMEBODY got busted!

Maybe this should have been posted in the humor section.

Feel free to rip it up fellas............

Sounds like typical phone company psychobabble to me.

When are these politically correct idiots going to realize that some nutcase, who doesn't give a shit about their policy, decides to shoot up the place, that they are making it easier.  These policies have never stopped one fool yet, and disarming the employees makes sure that one of them can't stop him, either.

It sounds like the same type of policy we have at my work place.  The way I see it is out of sight out of mind.  If you feel the need to have something handy keep it to yourself.

I was on pretty good terms with my last HR person (it was a small startup) & she asked for input on the "revised employee handbook". It had similar prohibitions against firearms, et cetera.

My input was, "I'm very proficient with a firearm and am legally allowed to carry one. I'll respect your wishes because I want to keep working here but please be advised that I've told my wife to sue you, the board and the rest of the executive management team for criminal negligence - and anything else the sleaziest lawyer she can find can think of - if I get killed by someone while at or commuting to or from this office." [:D]

The most amusing part was that she thought I was kidding. Moot point now - company's folded - but I intend to use that line again.

"...arrange...for a partner or for a private security company to accompany you to the site and remain while you are working."

A couple of problems with this bullshit idea. First, unless it is an armed security company, then there are just multiple potential victims in the high crime areas. Second, this is a damned inefficient use of company funds.  It is no wonder cell phone rates are so expensive.  The cell phone companies are paying for another employee or private security company, with one or more individuals, to protect one guy at a cell site when he could more efficiently protect himself with a firearm.  The firearm doesn't get paid an hourly rate.

So you are from Oregon ? Well, that should mean QWEST COMMUNICATIONS !!!

And we all know what ASSHOLES they have become since Joe Nacchio bought US WEST with funny money. Yea, I work for the jerks as well. You arn't even allowed to have an empty shell casing or an empty holster on company property as I recall from the Code of Conduct book. And there isn't a damn thing the CWA can do to save your ass !! Really now , you know that the "cone cops " are out to bust you for anything they can find.

It's like working for Hitler !!

Damn!  Here, the policy is that you can only  shoot at an approved location.  Says nothing about actually having guns at work.  Guns are meant for bear protection, but we pushed the limit by leaving AR's and FAL's by our desks with antigun consultants around.

It is still not a fireable offence to have guns around, like everything else potentially is.

DANG!  Those spiders must be friggin' huge if you guys feel you need to carry firearms to protect yourselves from them.

Glad I don't live there.

The hospital doesn't allow firearms on property (even if you're an off-duty LEO).

But there ARE armed guards posted throughout the ER and other floors.

There's ALWAYS two in the ER, and approximately 8 - 10 distributed throughout the building and garage / parking lots.

So, I feel all warm and fuzzily safe. [rolleyes]

When I first started working in Baltimore (in some of the most dangerous areas, I might add), I told my boss that since Md. won't allow me to carry, the company should provide body armor. He laughed it off, so I told him, staring directly into his eyes, that if I was in a bad area, and I fealt that I was in real danger, I would run over ANYBODY that got in the way of my truck, even if it was the whole neighborhood. Little kids, pregnant moms, gangstas, old ladies, I don't care. There have been incidents where someone accidently turns onto the wrong street only to find their car surrounded, being forced from their vehicles, and in some cases shot. In one case an entire family was shot, but that was years ago. His response was "Do what you have to".

Baltimore is consistantly rated as one of the 5 most dangerous cities. Often it's #1 or #2.

0DDJ0B got it right.  Policies like this suck and my company also has one that prohibits firearms even in your car in the parking lot.  Like 0DDJ0B said, keep it to yourself.

Now maybe things have changed since I was in law enforcement 82ndAbn, but back then, in Texas, I could (and did) carry on or off duty at all times.  A Peace Officer was never "off-duty" and could carry anywhere, anytime.

Has this changed?

Dear Boss-

I can understand the company's forward thinking policy on icky weapons and could not be more in favor of it. However I do need to voice my concern over my low comfort level in working in urban areas where there is crime, rural area where there are wild animals and suburburban areas where there are probably both! Therefore I will be safely at home, please mail my checks-

Thank you!

Faithful Worker

--->OR<---

Of course this is only meant in jest, as I would never advocate illegal activity, but it would be funny [;)]

Dear Boss guy:

My spouse sent home a letter today indicating that he was required to work in high crime areas without a weapon. A person with common sense would see this as dangerous and not require such stupid behavior. I am concerned not only as I obviously care for my spouse but also because he/she assists me financially and in raising our children, therefore I have decided that you are now the personal guarantor of my spouse's safety so you had best make sure nothing happens to him or else the same thing happens to you.

One of 2,000 anonymous spouses who have sent you this letter, sleep tight.

When I was still gainfully employed in telecom and living in southern Californistan, I had to swap out some working but maxed out equipment with a piece of gear with more capacity. This was in a central office in the Rampart area of L.A. Since it was working equipment, the work had to be done during low traffic time, which meant after midnight.

A customer rep and I met in the parking lot, and when I bent over to get my toolbox out of my truck, he asked if that was all the tools I had brought with me. I said, "Yes, except for the one on my hip."

He smiled and pulled open his jacket. What are the odds that we would BOTH be carrying 1911s that night? [:D]
