I have a trip coming up, about 1k give or take round trip, and I was due for an oil change. Not feeling like changing my own oil in the frostbitten cold, I took it to Jiffy Lube and just shelled out $40 to have it done. (Those of you who want a corner of my man card, just give me the address to send it to)
Anyway, they were talking about my engine needing a flush. They showed me a few drops of water on a cap and some yellowish sludge. They were talking like my engine was going to kaboom. I chalked it up to them just doing the standard Jiffy-Lube-make-you-worry-about-your-car-and-buy-other-services routine, but given this trip I have coming up, I was curious to know if this is, indeed, something I should have done soon (before or after the trip). I have a guy I can take it to who can give me a good insight, but if any of you have any knowledge about this, please let me know your thoughts. Vehicle is a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT with a shy bit over 80k miles. _MaH |

That watery, yellow sludge on the bottom of your oil cap is just condensation, it's normal.
"Engine flushes" are also known as wallet flushes, in that they serve no real purpose but to make money. If you're taking care of your truck, keeping up with the scheduled maintenance using good parts, you're doing all that needs to be done. No silly flushes or cleansers required. |
