Mechanics: I was looking at my oil pressure gauge and noted that it holds steady at around 40 psi but as engine speed increases, the pressure increases. Is this normal or should it hold steady?

yup normall. When the engine speeds up so does the oil pump which in turn equals more oil pressure.
