First of all, I don't know what kind of engine this is, who makes it, where to buy parts, etc.

...except I luckily found this link (go here and click on the "sport" engine link) on the internet that contains what appears to be almost the exact same engine.  I sent an e-mail to the site hoping to get some information.
While I am waiting for a response, I thought I'd post my issue here.

In the pictures, you can see that (with the pull start mechanism removed) the little white plastic tab that engages the pull start wheel is worn down.  It no longer will engage, and skips if the pull start is tried.  I tried to rebuild it with JB Weld, but that didn't work.

My 7 year old is itching to ride his "chopper" but we can't until the pull start mechanism is fixed.  I am looking to try to find a replacement part, or if all else fails, JB Weld a small piece of metal to it giving the mechanism some purchase.

Any clues or ideas as to what the engine is and where to get parts?  Unfortunately I can't just replace the engine.

What is a go ped shop?  There are a couple of Japanese Bike places around, but I have no idea where to start looking for a part for a little tiny Chinese engine.

Thanks for the info by the way!

They would sell go peds and parts. Its a clone of a string trimmer or leave blower engine, a small engine repair shop would probably have one that would fit. I'll see if i can find one online. If nothing else can be found Yongkang Is the manufacturer of the engine.

Wow thanks!  BTW - How do you tell if it is the 33cc model?  Aren't there other sizes as well, and are the pull start parts the same?

You can allways use a power drill to start the thing...

See the 'Edger of Mass Destruction' neighbor-war thread...

ha my dad bought one of those things at an auction for like $25. He only rides it at night because he's too embarrassed for anyone to see him on it during the day.

Yeah, I have thought of that, but restarting it away from home might be an issue.

LOL!

It is actually pretty entertaining to ride.  It is sized perfectly for my oldest son.  Here is a pic of my brother riding it:

Find a local small engine repair shop.  They should be able to help you get it working.  That is a fairly common engine.  You should not have too much difficulty getting parts.

Going by what most everyone uses is the 36cc. And those parts should be the same for all models from 18 to 46cc.
