Tonight at the range we got into a debate about how the Eotech is supposed to function.
Myself and another guy are under the impression that check weld should not be a major issue. By that I mean I thought with an Eotech if the dot was on the target, that's where you hit. But that doesn't seem to be the case. Depending of how I place my head ( usually my nose is on the charging handle) I could change the point of impact. I'm not talking about a change in target distance but at a consistent distance of 25 yards. So it may be a stupid question but i'd like to know if I misunderstood how an Eotech works, or if the guy who's rifle I was shooting has a fubar Eotech. I own another brand of dot and consistent cheek weld is required to hit POA. My understanding of the Eotech was cheek weld dint matter. Any one care to enlighten me ? |

I have a 'real' Eotech (and I love it).
Mine does seem to have a little bit of parallax (less than .5") out to about 15 yards (virtually negligible) - beyond 15 yards the bullet hits wherever the dot is regardless of where it is in the window. I have Magpul BUIS runing at 1/3 co-witness, if I pop up the BUIS and sight the rifle in on something at 15 yards the Eotech dot will ever so slightly (<.5") come off of the BUIS, beyond 15 yards the Eotech dot stays sighted at the exact same spot as the BUIS no matter where it is in the window. |
| Shitloads of older Eotechs were refunded the purchase price due to this issue. Apparently parallax was an issue with them. Mine was one of them which I returned for the refund (then bought an Aimpoint) and it always worked well, but I only sighted from the center of the glass, never tried shooting it with the circle up in the corner or something. I did look through it that way a few times and the dot moved on the target when I moved my head. |

Well I stepped in it now. I called the owner and informed him is sight is defective and he had not heard about the recall and asked me to help ( no good deed..)
Ive looked over the countless pages of data here and managed to confuse myself. Can someone give me the bottom line on what we need to do in order to get this sight replaced-funded ? Thanks for the info |

Which model of EOTech is this? If it is one of the newer EXPS series, there was a long and detailed test run by one of the ex-CAG dudes in the Optics forum. EOTech did extremely well.

I thought at the same time the problem with zero drifting due to temperature variances they admitted to having some paralex issues? Could be wrong. |

Do we not hate Eotech anymore? Hard to keep track of all the hate. I suppose if I had the problems that apparently really do exist then I'd be pissed also. But I have had my Eotech for over 15 years and have shot it in sub-zero to over 100 degree temperatures and it has always performed flawlessly. I love the sight and have no plans to get rid of it, but I'll admit that if it exhibited the failures that are obviously out there I'd be in line to return it. |

I was impressed with the sight picture. it's huge compared to most other optics.
I thought I wanted one, but now i'm not so sure. I think i'll call Eotech tomorrow and see if I can learn whats up. Besides, the owner of the sight is not a happy camper. maybe i'll throw a low-ball offer at him, return it to Eotech and get it fixed or replaced. heck, maybe they will give me a refund and i'll make a buck or two- Always ready to help :) |
