Any way to do this?

Searching Droid forums says "no". There has to be a way to reset it to nothing.

Thanks.

Which device, which version of android? Running a mod on it?

Find your device here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/index.php and look in its forum. They should have an answer for you quicker than in here.

Casio Commando.  2.2.1...rooted, no OS mods.

Looked in most Android forums, but nothing relevant, especially for this particular phone.

Found 2 methods.

settings ––> language & keyboard ––> touch input ––> user dictionary.

settings ––> Applications ––> Running Services ––>Touch Input ––> Touch Input Settings ->> User Dictionary

"You have no words in your user dictionary"

Anyone know where in the OS they are stored? My phone is rooted, so I can use the file manager to nuke the dictionary from within.

ETA: Using the stock XT9 text input.

Found another possible.

Have you guys tried going to the options while dictionary is on?
There's a feature in my SE phone that's named My Words that displays the list of words listed in your T9 dictionary...there u can edit and delete the words in your T9 dictionary list.

Worth a shot.

The only option via a " long press" on the running dictionary is to add words. If I knew the name of the folder the OS stores them in, I could nuke it manually.

I change keyboards to get the predictive bullshit to stop.

Why erase it instead of just turning it off?  I turned off "next word prediction" and any auto-correct options under settings/multi-touch keyboard settings.  But I have a qwerty keyboard which probably makes it a lot easier to get by without that stuff on my D2.

There are plenty of *legitimate* reasons that "imitation crab meat" shows up in your predictive text dictionary...

Prediction is off...I want to purge dictionary selections i.e. list that displays above the keyboard.

Heh.  I am curious what words the OP doesn't want his phone predicting any more.

Multiple misspellings.  Dictionary editor apps all say "no words found"....wtf?

I'm running gingerbread on my rooted RAZR, here's where mine is. Try this and let me know:

/data/data/com.android.providers.userdictionary/databases

could you just deselect:
show suggestions
auto-correct errors
next word prediction

therefore no need to locate & wipe out default dictionary

Yeah it has to be rooted and you need a root browser app to find that.

Searched with astro and found /system/app/UserDicitonaryProvider.apk

Don' think I can (or want to) mess with an .apk file.

ETA: Android 2.2.1   Phone won't root well with newer Android versions.

Download the app called "root browser," astro will not allow you to view system files. My user dictionary is titled "user_dict.db"

Hmmm, I guess my only other suggestion would be to try and find a different root browsing app and see if that works. Try "File Slick."

Half the fun of sending a text anymore is what comes out on the other side.  I say keep it.

Found it with file slick. Do I nuke it? Can't seem to "edit" it.....hmmmm.

Google is telling me you can edit it with an SQL program.

I copied mine to the SD card and opened it with notepad, you could try that if you're feeling lucky.

In that case I guess you could just delete the .db file and then start your user dictionary over from scratch.

LOL....

I must have deleted the wrong thing because now my phone is back the original configuration.....seems to have "unrooted" itself.

Apps are gone, OEM software running, nothing reads on SD card...LOL

Good news is that dictionary is fixed.

I had Ti Backup and the SD card with everything backed up....it all seems to be gone. Guess I have to re-root tomorrow and build from scratch.

ETA: Downloaded TiBackup again....found "missing files" trying to restore everything....LOL

settings> applications> manage applications> all> XT9 Txt input> clear cache/clear data

That should erase any "learned" (learned from repeated user input) predictive text. Is that what you wanted to do?
