So the MTA is giving Escape Masks to it's Employees. It took a Eye Witness News Story to get them to do it. At this point giving just a mask without the suit isn't going to help. I say Duct Tape your Mouth and Nose and put your Sunglasses on. Thats what I tell people who ask me how to protect themself. |

Marc, I hope they aren't the same masks we (NYPD Transit) had and are phasing out. We're up to the Millenium Masks now. The old masks, also by MSA were horrible. First off they are packed in a sealed bag, that you'd need to open to use the mask. The mask is only good for 15 minutes after the bag is opened. Secondly it's a horror show to put on. It's basically a large plastic bag with a mouth piece and a rubber gasket at the opening that goes around your throat. First you put 2 hands in the bag, and stretch it outwards, then you try and pull it over your head. Once you have it on you should have about 7 minutes of usefullness left in the mask...but don't worry. That rubber gasket should choke you out and render you unconscious in 5 minutes. You won't feel a thing. |

Vinnie...Yea that's the one I saw it on TV yesterday. Looked like a giant plastic I guess those are the ones NYPD threw away. After all those stories and the transit union complaining they had to give them something. What a bunch of crap. Anyone in the tunnels are going to be SOL. |
