the last batch of everlast stuff i bought was total shit, started to wear and fall apart almost instantly.  I will not be buying anymore.  In comparison I have a set of fairtex thai pads that i have had for like 10 years and they have been great.

Everlast as a company has has produced quality stuff, as well as products that are shit. They've had their ups and their downs, and are currently at a low period.

If you are getting bag gloves, Everlasts are cheap, and can be replaced cheaply (however often). If you are getting training gloves for sparring, I highly consider getting something of higher quality. Reason being, is because Everlasts training gloves (even the 16 oz), seem like they're 12 oz. Fairtex is good to go, but take a look at the Grant and Reyes line. Expensive, but are top notch, quality stuff.

Whether or not Everlast disperse their padding differently, who knows, but you can definitely feel the fist behind the padding.
Also, what kind of contact sport? MMA? Boxing?

I have purchased tons of Everlast and Fairtex gear.  For your head you dont want the cheapo Everlast... it spins on your head every time you get hit and starts to cover your eyes.  I bought an all leather version that I used that had sued on the inside.  It pretty much solved the sliding around on the head issue (these also fit better because they were in sizes in stead of one size fits all) but after a few months of use in boxing I noticed you cant keep the leather clean and the sued started to get this nasty black fungal growth in the leather.  I junked it shortly thereafter.  I got a Fairtex headgear too.  Your head goes in from the back and it wraps around your chin.  Solves the spinning on your head issue and solves the fungal growth issue.  I really like the Fairtex headgear.  Totally reccomend it.  It is not as padded as the Everalst though (the high end Everlast) as the padding is harder and thinner.  I have not had an issue with the Everlast sparring gloves... just dot get those black foamy 16oz sparring gloves that are really padded bag gloves... those suck... I used those too.  The red ones are OK.  You dont want tie up... you want velco.  Tied up is SUCH a massive pain in the ass when you have one glove on or have to share gloves with someone.  I have Fairtex pro versions of the thai pads and shin guards and those are the best I have ever tried of their type... happy with all the Fairtex gear and the only thing I have been OK with from Everlast is the sparring gloves.  If you are getting everything else Fairtex the Fairtex gloves are essentially identical to the Everalst IMO.  Get a matching set.  One more thing... used LOTS of mouthguards.  Get a Shok Docter or whatever they are called.  I use a green and black one.  It has this material that makes it grip your molars so the mouth piece does not want to fall out when you get winded and open your mouth... also resists chewing 3X better than the cheapo mouthpieces... and dont get a double mouthpiece.  You cant breath with those or talk if you need to. Hope this helps.

Now when I am speaking of gloves I am speaking of BOXING gloves.  I have had Boxergenics, Faritex, etc MMA gloves too.  Those are a whole other thing.
