I know I need to exercise but I get bored exercising. My mind is always thinking of places I would rather be and things I would rather do. What do you recommend to make exercising fun and interesting? Choose a mode of exercise that you enjoy. I love running and riding my bike. I find swimming and lifting weights tedious. I do as much of the former two as I possibly can and as little of the latter two as I can get away with, depending on what my next few events are. What do you like to do? |

Set goals, I guess? Why are you exercising? Are those other things drinking or playing video games...if not, do more of those other things. My pants are getting tighter. The other things are eating, watching tv, reading, video games, chores I need to do at home (mowing, laundry, cleaning) reading online. |
|
If keeping bodyfat down is your only reason for exercising you could quit exercising and pay close attention to your diet. Not that exercise allows you to disregard diet, but weight loss in general terms comes down to calories in (food) to calories out (energy usage). Consume less calories and you will need to burn less calories.
This advice also goes against everything I believe in. |

Where do you live? Maybe there's some trails your could ride or hike. |

In GENERAL terms. Yeah, it's more complicated than that I think most of us agree. I'm a huge believer in eating healthy food. But it holds true that in general if you eat less you lose weight. (that of course doesn't make you healthy).

Quoted: I hate running, I have walked but I keep thinking of much more fun things to do. Well, then it's time for tough love. Do you hate being active more than you hate being fat or not? If you hate being fat more then get off the couch and do something about it. If you hate being active more then all this type type typing away we're doing is useless.

Also the reason I pointed out weight loss rather than specific body comp goals. But to be honest even though I did click your link I didn't buy and read the book so I probably don't know what I am talking about. |

I don't know, I guess I was hoping for suggestions to make those things less boring. So what do you do besides sit around? What makes it boring for you? Lack of challenge? What outside activities do you do? What part of the country are you in..Alabama-duh, but what is near you? Parks, walking trails, bike paths, quiet country roads, gyms with basic cardio and weight equipment? If you're looking for ideas, you need to help everyone help you. Biking and running handles much of my cardio. I don't do workout music, but enjoy sight seeing when I do cardio. When I get bored on the treadmill, I start to push myself-fuck with the incline, do intervals, challenge yourself differently, or try to beat your last time every time you get up there. Bike riding isn't boring, it's often the routes that you have that are boring. Try to find new ones. Try hitting them from the other side. Try running/walking outside and then hopping on an inside bike and look at chicks. Quit finding excuses to avoid real PT. Do something besides just sit around and play video games for a workout. |

Edit I'm missing all the good stuff Nah, I let my mouth run fast on an online forum. I was just curious if it would've warranted a ban or a warning. I wasn't as eloquent as DT in standing up for Kasab. My edit in my second post was only because I know Mods can read it. These kinds of threads are my kryptonite. I want to be nice and help, but how do you help someone that wants it all handed to them. |

I don't know, I guess I was hoping for suggestions to make those things less boring. Time to man up a little: If the only thing stopping you from from physical activity is "boring," then it sounds like you're looking for reason not to do it. Lot's of things are "boring" and yet we still do them. You've been given excellent ideas and advice how to overcome your self conceived roadblocks. Either use them or continue to fail because you're "bored." Your choice. |

Athletes and regular people who are in shape - what do they have in common? They have an activity that they love, and they do it consistently. Exercise isn't a chore to them. Nobody can make you love exercise. You have to want it. Being fit requires a lot of hard work, and if you don't like it you won't do it. (There is one more category of people who are often found in decent shape: prisoners. They don't necessarily love exercise, they just don't want to get raped in the shower.) |

You know what's NOT boring? Being in your 40s and having girls in their 20s dropping jaws and staring when you peel your shirt off at the pool. A very welcome side-effect of putting in the effort to be in shape. This coming from the first dude on arfcom I ever recognized as "swole". Good to see you, boss. OP- 1) If you hate being a sack of nothing, do something about it. 2) If you hate doing something about it more than being a sack of nothing, go back to or continue being a sack. You are the only true judge of yourself on this earth. If you are pleased with yourself, then so be it. Go in peace. If not, do something about it. 3) No one is going to hand you strength, endurance, health, physique- you have to earn these. 4) Set goals and make plans to achieve them. |

So I should pay someone money to try and rape me if I don't meet my fitness goals? Maybe thats why I can't deadlift 500, no fear of ass rape to motivate me. |
