Japanese made guitars, specifically ESP EII series. Granted, prices of guitars have gone through the roof since the VID (up 20-30%) but they are fantastic machines.

I will definitely second the Kitchenaid stand mixers. My wife loves the one I got her and it's getting ready to be Christmas cookie season, so it's going to see a ton of use in the next couple weeks.

Logitech Harmony remote controls. Simple, even fun to program. USB to computer takes you to their website. Enter model numbers for all your home theatre devices. Enter the input ports they are connected to. Select which devices you want for each activity (watch tv, watch dvd, smart tv, radio, etc). Example: If I've been watching TV and want to watch a dvd I just press "DVD" on the touch screen. The remote mutes the tv, changes input to the one the DVD player is plugged into, opens the dvd drawer and turns on my surround sound system and sets it to the correct input. If you want to access menu for any particular device just select that device and the menu button works for that device. Mine replaces 5 remotes( TV, cable box, A/V receiver, DVD player and Roku). So simple even my ex and her mother could use it.

Quoted: Quality HT speakers. I'm still blown away at the difference of my current (Infinity Reference RC263 / R253s) vs old Onkyo HTIB. Makes any TV or music so much more enjoyable! View Quote Good choices right here, excellent quality and performance if you can find the rc263 in stock. Revel still has major discounts on their products right now if someone is looking for quality stuff and can’t find Infinity. Will cost more though. |

Quoted: Basically anything you're actually going to use more than once, and especially if you're going to use it on a regular basis, buying and having a higher quality item is worthwhile- if you can afford it. If you can't afford it then it isn't worth it. Drives me nuts how many people buy nice stuff because "it's worth it" when they're also racking up credit card debt with no idea how they'll ever pay it off. If money is really tight there are times when buying lower quality makes sense: when my wife and I were first married we didn't make much money and she was still in school (college you pervs) so I had a corded Ryobi drill, a corded HF sawzall, and an old corded craftsman circular saw- the three together cost me something like $60 at a pawn shop. Now that I have more money, I have M18 versions of all of those things and they're totally worth it now, but would not have been worth the financial strain at the time. Now I'll climb off my soapbox and say that nice things are very nice to have, and in the spirit of this thread: Clothing in general. I'm partial to Duluth boxer briefs, Duluth firehouse work pants, darn tough socks, Carhartt shirts and hoodies (though I don't wear their shirts as often as I used to the RAINGAURD DEFENDER or whatever ridiculous name they give their hoodie, is damn nice and last forever). Boots/shoes- I wore wolverine composite safety toe boots when I worked machining and construction, nice to not have that steel in there during the winter and they lasted several years a pair in environments that shredded cheaper boots in just a month or two. I have Belleville boots now for work and 3 season hiking/hunting that are basically zero drop jungle boots that are phenomenal. Good knives- ZT is my preference for pocket, I like the zwilling pro line for the kitchen- the victorinox/forschner line is (IMO) the best value kitchen knife line on the market and I use one of their $7 3" sheepsfoot paring knives every day. Tools- Milwaukee is my game, but DeWalt and Makita are both fine Subsonic .22lr HPs (CCI specifically)- even though I can't have a can here (damn people's republic) they're nicer on the ears in the woods and have no appreciable difference in performance in anything I have. View Quote Quality rant, worth the expense. I know exactly what you mean by having to skimp as a poor at first when starting out. My wife and I went meatless for a time when we got married, not out of choice but out of lack of fundage. We were saving for a house and every dime went to that, so we would add carrots to our 25 cent ramen noodle packs for “texture”. I totally get it. That makes me appreciate good things even more now. |

You shouldn’t. Blends and overpriced Peaberries. One Hawaiian bean in 100 lbs can be called a Hawaiian blend. If you want the best, find some 100% Kona Extra Fancy green beans and roast them yourself. Still cheaper than that sites BS. @larkinmusic |

Scopes and binoculars (Leupold and Steiner)
Salomon sneakers (specifically Speedcross) Arc'teryx jackets Jeans from 7 for All Mankind or Lucky North Face coats and fleece as long as you buy their more expensive lines Smartwool and Darn Tough socks Apple products were listed above. I have all Google equipment and one of my kids has all Samsung, both companies have been flawless for us for years. My wife and another kid have all Apple stuff. We've had numerous Apple products that have needed repair or replacement (iMac, mbp, iPad mini, iPhone 8, XR, 13 pro, also 3 sets of Airpods) None of the issues were due to damage or abuse. We have had numerous Apple products that have been trouble free, they just have had a much worse track record than the other brands. I know lots of people like their stuff, but based on my experience Apple should be priced lower than the other brands, not higher. |
