Im not President Jorge Bush's biggest fan. I think he's a giant fuck up that's done very little right. I do not get pissed off when I see other right wingers talk trash about him, as long as they are being truthful.

But when I hear a left winger trash him, EVEN IF I AGREE WITH THEM, I get pissed off at them and kinda feel loyal to Jorge.

WTF is up with that?

It's an in-group out-group thing.

You might think he's a fuck-up, but he's still YOUR fuckup, and part of your group.  For an ingroup member to criticise him is okay, because we're all on the same team.

When an out-group member critisizes him, it makes his membership in YOUR group more salient and is perceived as (in part) an attack on your group as well as an attack on him,

Because, even though Bush has made policy decisions that we do not agree with, we don't think he is a corrupt power-mad megalomaniac.  And when the supporters of CLEARLY corrupt power-mad megalomaniacs (Clintons and Obama) take shots at GWB we naturally are offended.

That actually makes a lot of sense and describes some more of the feelings that I couldn't convey well.

It's like when you talk about your brother, saying he's a fuck up, idiot, etc. but if a friend or stranger says the same thing, you get really pissed off at them.

Quite insightful . . . What's good for the goose is not necessarily what's good for the gander.

Sorry, I had to.
