My internal drive is almost full. I'm ordering some RAM and I intend to be storing a lot of video (new camcorder) and I'd like to get an external hard drive.

Is this one good?

I know Seagate has a good reputation and my mind tells me if I'm also going to use it as a backup I'd better get a good one. Is the pricing in line with what I should pay?

Would you recommend a different one?

read my post in the other thread

i would buy a higher rpm drive and replace your existing drive. then you can buy a external bay and install the original drive in it.

I just looked at them and the pricing is better than the external.

I tried to install an additional internal HD in my old 'puter and could never get it to run. I guess I'm a little gunshy about an internal.

you might have to take it somewhere to be copied.

everyday i "ghost" one harddrive to another. in other words. you can make and exact copy of your existing harddrive to the new one.

That is a pretty good price for an already put-together external.
But does it have a fan? Note that the internal Seagates have a
5 year warranty - unless Seagate sells them in an external
enclosure, then it is 1 year. Heat kills.

I assembled one myself a week ago. Fry's had a 400G Seagate
on sale for $120, and I got a case for it, aluminum with 2 fans.
for $30 at NewEgg. Piece of cake.

Now I am searching for the best Ghosting software. Ghost 10 has
more bad reviews than good. Acronis True Image seems to be
the way to go. Not sure yet.

Any Ghosting experts want to chime in?

Im still using ghost 2003. that i put on a bootable cd.

the newer versions i believe you have to install in windoz

Cruze5: Yes, I hear that was the last tolerable version of Ghost.
But all that can be bought new now is Ghost 10. As far as I know.
If you have some source for older version purchase, I'd thank you.

Hanz: That exact Seagate ready-built external is in the Fry's
sale flier this morning for $150. So if you have a Fry's nearby...
