I have my first ever eye stye, lower eyelid. It formed into a small whitehead on the inside of my eyelid (against the globe). Put the warm compress on for a couple of days. Now the whitehead has shifted from inside to the very tip of my lid (it rubs up/down against my globe when I blink).
Everything I've read online says not to pop the whitehead as this could lead to a more serious infection...but the remedies are to "massage it with a warm compress, let it pop and drain on its own"...which to me is similar; one is controlled, the other uncontrolled. I guess one of the main fears is contaminated germs going into the eye, but doesn't this happen if it "resolves" on its own by massaging and draining? So, pop or no pop? (BTW, no needles involved; just clean fingertips; q-tip to catch the discharge) |

A few years back, I had one that made it hard to see. My lower eyelid was swollen half shut and it felt tight. Looked like I'd been hit in the eye.
The doctor said the same thing, warm compress and it will go away. It ended up popping on its own while I was driving home from work one night, making my vision a bit blurry with pus. When I got home I finished it off with a good series of squeezes. It left my eyelid floppy, like loose for part of the evening too. By the next morning everything was back to normal. |

My son had a bad one once. I finally put him in the shower and closed all the doors and put towels under the doors so when he took a hot shower at the end of the day the bathroom got real hot like sauna left him in there till the hot water ran out. In 2 days it pulled the infection out and the thing pop while he was in the shower.
We were fighting it for weeks before them with prescription eye drops and warm compresses. |

Putting pressure on it trying to get it to pop prematurely risks forcing the infection deeper into the eyelid. Warm compresses and leave it alone. That is the way to go. I had one for a long time before the Army had an appointment for me. A hot washcloth helped a lot. It broke by itself. |

When you take a shower, put some Baby Shampoo (No More Tears) on the washcloth and gently wash your eyelid (while it is closed). Then rinse with the shower water.
This will also help prevent them from starting. Some kinds are caused by getting certain kinds of dust in your eyes, such as fine wood powder from carpenter work. Washing your eyelids and eyelashes every night will prevent them from starting. |

Mine have always ended like this http://i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz145/kirk22-250/7E102086-709F-44A7-B581-7BB77BE5B80C_zpsfgtyn3ut.jpg me too. chalazions suck. op don't pop it, use a warm compress and it will eventually drain on its own. I usually use a boiled egg wrapped in moist paper towels. I also wash my eyes with baby shampoo and change my pillowcases constantly as a preventative measure. |

I always assumed minimum eye irritation. they make some stuff specifically for this but its basically lemon scented baby shampoo for like $20 for about 2 ounces. |
