| Should I drop $1600 on a DSA FAL? |
|
No need for .308 with modern day with bullet technology.
Have you ever carried one further than 10 meters? 20 round magazines?
Name one (modern) Army (that is western) still using the FAL. Really? I can't even.. Buy another AR, and stop living in the past. I'm sure I missed a few. |

Is it a new one or an older one? New at gun store. Has a rail and 18" barrel. I mean is it one of the newer versions being released by DSA or a new old stock. Not sure. What is the difference? |

Way more fun than an Ar10-ish. 7.62 Destroys/blows shit up mo 'betta. Cinder blocks to milk jugs. Really makes them jump. Fun to take apart and admire the design and cool machining of the parts. Designed to be completely disassembled with a coin and a bullet. Got to love that. Except for the recoil spring in the stock and that takes a special tool. I think a special tool may have thought up the idea that you can use the bullet to remove the extractor from the bolt though... DO NOT attempt this without safety glasses and the "right" tool. Even though the design is very resistant to fouling and you actually rarely need to clean it we all know that at some point we want to take it apart and put it back together. The design is near genius for this. Like a 1911. |

As for name the mil unit using FAL's...most went to 5.56 not out of choice...but per NATO requirements. Also keep in mind how our own military pressed M14's back into service in Afghanistan and Iraq....if they had FAL's they would have pressed those back into service. They did so based upon the performance and range issues with the 5.56mm rounds and the target environment that they are operating in. Show me one Western Mil unit that does not have a 7.62 caliber weapon in service check and mate |

I take it is the paratrooper model, an SA58?
I love FAL's over the other 7.62 BR's. They are a lot of fun to shoot. The 18" barrels are not easy to come by and 1600.00 isn't terrible, but I'd try to grab it for 1400.00. Then, when they land on 1500.00, you saved 100.00. You're welcome. |

A problematic bolt lockup? Please explain more about this, now you've got me curious.... Quoted:

They have a problematic bolt lockup...they are a nice curio if it is an old one but if you are looking to use it there much better choices. Actually, a potential and inherent problem with the FAL, is the hammer notch for the sear being very shallow. After time and ~5000 rounds (IIRC,) that 'ledge' would wear down a bit prematurely and you'd have a catastrophic failure. Williams Triggers used to have it explained on their website years back, but I don't see it there any longer, however, you can contact them and ask about it, if you're interested. http://www.williamstriggers.com/index.html Chris |

Because of the design... Dropping Bolt... they are not a good choice accuracy wise and develop excessive head space. Not really a good design if you are looking at a long range gun...and the 308 is a long range caliber. Quoted:

A well-built FAL with quality parts and quality ammo and also fitted with optics can shoot with sufficient practical accuracy (think all rounds in the black) to several hundred metres if the shooter is up to the task. If you grab some surplus beater kit built on a crap receiver and shoot Tula, then yeah, you're definitely not going to be hitting much past short to medium ranges. The FAL will never be capable of the precision of some rifles out there, but it can be made capable of sufficient precision to hit a man at longer ranges, which is all that you need. Anything more is academic. |

Quoted: personally, I wouldn't touch a new DSA this one seems to function pretty well (Old Dirty - owner never cleans it, abuses the hell out of it... )Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Is it a new one or an older one?
