I'm guessing you could turn a regular AK into a FAMAS knockoff...

Uh that looks like a AK trainer turned into a bull-pup.

I think they are ugly, and I don't know where you'd get one, but I think cause it is a .22 that it just might be legal in Cali so I want one just to piss off the anti-gunners.

Years ago, there used to a Filapino company that make look-alike guns in 22LR, but from what I understand, they didn't function like their full-size counterparts.

IIRC,

.22 LR rifles can still be imported and I believe semi auto ones too.

Correct me if I am wrong but were .22 LR guns exempt from the 1989 and 1998 EO import bans?

They show up occasionally on Gunbroker. They are definately more than the AR and AK copy's though. On Gunbroker, you'll want to search "Armi-Jager" "Mitchell" and "AP-85".

thanks for the info so what is the normal asking price for one of these. what brands are reliable? they look like a good way to add some military type rifles to the collection without spending $8000 on the only available copy out of four imported copies of the real thing. a little exagerated sure but iirc there was a styer aug at the local gun shop that sold for around $4000 so i imagine the famas is a little more $.

They were all made by Armi-Jager in Italy. They were just imported by a couple different companies.
The AP75/AP15 AR version runs about $350+, a FAMAS is going to be $600+
Armi-Jager also made a couple of their models in .32, I always thought one of those would be kinda cool.

I have seen quite a few of the AK , AR and Gaili ones over the years pass though the shop i work at

They are pretty crappy quality and expensive for what they are

if you get on that gets though a whole magazine without a malfunction you are fortunate

The FILIPINO company is Armscor.

I saw one at the last gun show, but it didn't have a mag and they still wanted nearly a grand. Never seen one for sale other than that. I'd really like one, or a PPS-50.

All FAMAS rifles are bullpups but, and here's the important part, not all bullpups are FAMAS rifles.

FAMAS with magazine block in place of mag, courtesy of Wikipedia. Please notice the incredible lack of resemblance:

please note the manufacturers are the one who named the damn rifle and if i asked where i could get one of those weird looking .22 cal rifles evryone would ask me wtf i was talking about.

i knew from jump it wasnt and exact copy have you ever seen the ak's in 22lr none of them look exactly like an ak same goes for the ar 15 in 22lr (accept of course for the standard ar15s with 22lr uppers) we are talking about copies that look similar if i wnted to buy a real FAMAS i would save up about 6 grand and buy one.

on top of that wikipedia is an unreliable source anyone and their mother can go and edit the information.

Yes, but when used as the source of a picture to illustrate something that you already know the appearance of, it's a good source, because they don't redirect hotlinks to pornography like SA and their pictures are all fair use.
