Instead of them regulating "dirty words" and the occasional nipple slip, they should regulate something that's actually a hazard.

The fucking auto noises like screeching tires, horns, sirens, revving engines that blare  on some radio commercials are a hazard to drivers listening to that shit while driving. Pisses me off.

Another more minor annoyance is the advertising spots involving weather or traffic. They play parts of a story from previously recorded and aired broadcasts. So, you catch the last bit of "I75 is backed up for miles at the Norwood lateral".

That's bull shit.

If they want to be helpful toward people's well being, worry less about a tit here or a "shit" there and more about someone getting freaked out because they hear an out of control car screeching toward them.

Fucking government agencies.

When it comes to government agencies the FCC is one of the better more reasonable ones.

That's quite telling, since they want to fine someone half a million dollars for a tit or a naughty word.

That's sad.

They're still mediocre.

The government solution to every problem involves either a fine, a tax, or both.

(and sometimes a fee)

Couldn't agree with OP more.  The only upside is that radio has gotten so advertisement-intensive that I listen to podcasts.  I have a little Bluetooth earpiece that works very well.  It's rather rare that I listen to broadcast radio anymore.

When I did listen, it was several times per week when I was startled by the sound of an accident or sirens coming over the radio.  In the days of excellent sound quality from radios, you can't tell, and it's dangerous.

Ads and spots?  What are those?  My phone alerts me to traffic hazards and conditions and I listen to ad free music, whatever music I feel like.  Radio can suck a fat one, with they're play one song and 3 ads.  Haha

Agreed.

We have a commercial on the radio that's starts with tires squeeling, it's supposed to be someone slamming on brakes because they saw low prices at a dealership they were passing. The mother fucker makes me tense up like someone in traffic is about to run into me.
Can't stand it.

Then the sales commercials, if you need a speed talker to blurt out rules and stipulations at a whisper on the end of your commercial, then you need to stop running shady fucking sales ads and be upfront about deals.

A few years ago a local business started using and then completely took over one of my UHF radio repeaters. They were unlicensed and their actions were illegal as hell. The FCC gave precisely zero fucks about those pricks making my repeater unusable.

Their inaction caused an arms escalation of sorts, with me buying more and more sophisticated equipment (including a P25 digital repeater and radios) in order to keep the local business from using my gear

I know, CBS and all that - but screw the FCC. I'd like to see the lazy drones who "helped" me homeless and eating out of garbage cans.

We have one where a cop car's siren sounds very real...
It is a lawyer ad, go figure.

HATE IT.

Those noises on the radio annoy me too, but I can honestly say I never once thought "damn, I wish the FCC would fine someone for making that noise I didn't like."

I just turn the radio off when I hear them.

A HAM repeater?

I was always under the impression that the HAM crowd took that shit very seriously and wielded the FCC like a battle axe.

I guess a fellow could use the old "pin in their antennae coax"??

No, it is a commercial UHF repeater.

This is not as big a problem on the amateur frequencies, as anyone interfering with an amateur repeater will be relentlessly hunted down by the local hams.

ETA: In general, in order to interfere with a repeater you have to transmit on its input frequency.

As soon as you do that, you are vulnerable.

I just inherited all my dad's ham stuff. (he's still with us, but after his strokes, he just doesn't use the stuff anymore and gave it to me)

Several hand helds, 2m, 440, one other plus a very nice yaesu (sic) base station, CW paddles, mics, etc. Looks like I'll give it a go. I understand the no-code tech is not hard to get.

Best of luck, and by all means do it.
