How do you all feel about the FFL transfer fees? I can understand that they have to charge a fee. The dealers have to make a living. But man I just had to fork over 25 bucks plus shipping to have a dealer send a rifle to another party. And the other party also has to fork over some pesos to the dealer at his end. Some charge a fee per 4473 form and some charge a fee for each item that goes on the form. It's starting to resemble the whole housing industry where they charge a fee to fax paperwork from one room to another.

Hey, I'm not trying to flame dealers here, it's just frustrating. Man, when I was a dealer I didn't charge anyone anything. But that was before the whole background check was implemented. I know there was a charge to do the background check at one time but that was when the local authorities performed the checks. Do the FEDS charge for background checks?

why did you have to pay a dealer to ship it?  Didn't the other FFL allow you to just send it directly to him private party?  Sounds to me like you need to find a new FFL.

I have to pay 35.00 for FFL fee

One time it was 55.00 I think.

Yeah, I'm going to have to find another FFL. But that's about the lowest I could find. Others charge 50 or more and some don't want to send them out just receive.

I thought about shipping it myself to the dealer but I wasn't sure on the legalities anymore. I thought about using USPS but I wasn't sure. UPS is a hassle to ship because you have to show them the weapon before you ship. It's a total hassle.

$20 per transfer at mine.

10 lowers?  $20 total.

I really like my FFL, I should send him a card.

I'm paying $15 per serial no.   I figure I end up saving much more than that with online sales

Obviously you've never transferred an NFA firearm.  The fees often go up when Form 4's, fingerprints, photos, etc. are involved.

$20-$25 seem to be the norm.

Some FFL's are real peices of work. There's one that I know that charge $20 + 10% of the cost of the firearm to do a transfer. His reasoning-you can buy it from him directly, cheaper. He does have good prices, but that doesn't help if your getting a rare/collectable/hard to get gun.

This is the way I look at it. If I just buy a stripped lower for say $100 shipped then have to pay $30, that sucks= $130 . If I buy for a local guy $100+ tax 7% = $107 no transfer fee.

Know if I buy a complete lower $400 shipped + $30 transfer= $430
Complete lower local $400+ tax 7%= $428
I would rather loose $2 rather then $23 on a stripped lower.

My last complete lower was about $500 shipped +$30 FFL. I would have cost me the $5 more if I could have found a local dealer. But could find one that had a POF lower.

Some assholes here in MD-istan will charge you based on the value of the firearm.  Up to and over $100.  Bullshit.  Surprise, they don't do many x-fers.

I pay $25.  Finally found a good FFL.

After I recently needed this service I started looking around.  If it's more than $15 it's too much.  There are several dealers in my area that do it for $15.

Around $25 is the going rate in my area.  I do know of one gun store that charges $100 per transfer.  Personally, I think that is just highway robbery.  I don't mind paying a gun dealer a small fee for the transfer, but I think $25 is the upper limit (and $100 is just plain ridiculous).

My FFL, who is also a member here, charges $100. for the first transfer on a 4470 and $65 each for any more on the same DROS.
