EVERYONE SEND SOME NASTY REPLIES TO THIS PUKE PLEASE!!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=z02J_kPincA&feature=related |
You guys realize this is an old song. Here is his music video from 1984. He is from Canada and talking about open boarders in 3rd world countries and CANADA not america ![]() I agree he is an anti war hippie though. I did rate his video 1 star as well ;) His video from 1984 As far as casual radio listeners were concerned, however, these concerns only became evident in 1984, with Cockburn's second radio hit, "If I Had a Rocket Launcher" (#88 US) from the Stealing Fire album. He had written the song a year earlier, after visiting Guatemalan refugee camps in Mexico that were attacked before and after his visit by Guatemalan military helicopters. His political activism continues to the present. Cockburn has travelled to many countries (such as Mozambique and Iraq), played countless benefits, and written many songs on a variety of political subjects ranging from the International Monetary Fund to land mines. |

Honestly....he IS a hippie. (Think Jimmy Hendrix and Cream era) Like his political leanings or not...he is a great musician. Political activism by the famous.....imagine....... So I'm curious....do any of you even know what this song is ABOUT? Or are you just sheep running over there posting? It's about GUATEMALA! Some of you people truly are just as silly as the liberals we work against. Sad. Through the 1980s Cockburn's songwriting became first more urban, later more global, and then, ultimately and most famously, more politicized: he became heavily involved with progressive causes. His growing political concerns were first hinted at in two astonishing but little-known discs, Humans and The Trouble with Normal. As far as casual radio listeners were concerned, however, these concerns only became evident in 1984, with Cockburn's second radio hit, "If I Had a Rocket Launcher" (#88 US) from the Stealing Fire album. His internationalist bent is reflected in the many world music influences (reggae, Latin, etc.) found in his music. Lyrics..... Here comes the helicopter -- second time today Everybody scatters and hopes it goes away How many kids they've murdered only God can say If I had a rocket launcher...I'd make somebody pay I don't believe in guarded borders and I don't believe in hate I don't believe in generals or their stinking torture states And when I talk with the survivors of things too sickening to relate If I had a rocket launcher...I would retaliate On the Rio Lacantun, one hundred thousand wait To fall down from starvation -- or some less humane fate Cry for Guatemala, with a corpse in every gate If I had a rocket launcher...I would not hesitate I want to raise every voice -- at least I've got to try Every time I think about it water rises to my eyes. Situation desperate, echoes of the victims cry If I had a rocket launcher...Some son of a bitch would die |
Doesn't matter what country the song is about, he's a liberal douchebag that deserves ridicule. And the "poor villagers" he's singing about were probably pro-communist narco trafficers....so fuck 'em. |
Riiiiiiight. It doesn't matter what their political leanings were.......You don't F'n rocket a refuge camp. Some of you people need to get a grip and your head out of your ass. If you have served, who precisely do you think you were serving for?! Yup, liberal hippies just like this one. AND people of a right leaning, gun carrying liked minded individuals such as can be found right here on ARFCOM. Its not a few of these and half dozen of the other.
Logic? In GD? |

The Unidad Revolucionaria Nacional Guatemalteca were not merely pesants fleeing oppression in Guatemala but rather were Marxist rebels. Yeah, little Che followers. They left behind their brand of Marxism in Chiapas, leading to the 1994 EZLN revolt. It is Marxism coupled with liberation theology. All bullshit. So, Cockburn is nothing more than a Marxist supporter. |

I hope all you guys are busy burning down this video are doing the same to Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Saturday Night Special" video. After all they are singing about guns being made for killing and nothing else and further that we should dump all of them to the bottom of the sea. Last I checked, advocating the disarming of citizens was a tenet of communism. Or does arfcom give them a pass because they hail from Alabama and adorn themselves in a confederate flag? |
Do you automatically believe the explanations that left-wingers give of their motivations? Do you think that they don't try to spin their more treasonous statements? This song was introduced at a time when the US was involved in Latin America in many different capacities, often involving US helos. He says he would retaliate against "states", note the plural. Silly? |
