So, decided to let the stealership work on my truck for once and dropped it off this morning.  Wife and kids are both gone til this afternoon so i walked an hour and a half back to the house.  Get to the front door, reach in my pocket, and realize my house key is still with the truck.  So here i am, sitting on my porch with 80% battery life until my wife shows up in 6-7 hours..

I've been in the same situation.

If the dealership is worth a damn they will bring you your keys.

Get off your ass and do some yard work and cleaning.

Your wife should come home to a well manicured yard which would score you some brownie points, and free up your weekend for shooting.

I don't know where you are in Texas but, in every Texas town I've been to they have cabs.

I can't be the only paranoid guy in GD who removes the vehicle key from his key ring when turning a car over for service.  I also take the garage door opener with me.

Liquor store within walking distance?

Go see a movie?

Call a hooker escort?

So you are going to wait 6-7 hours when you can walk a 3 hour round trip, get some exercise, and get your key?

You are not, anytime someone needs my key I give them either JUST the car key/alarm fob or the valet key.

For clarity, I don't do this because I don't trust the people with my keys. I do this in case (as in the OP) I need my keys before the work is complete.

Borrow neighbor's bicycle, be back with keys in half an hour. Borrow neighbor's car, be back in ten minutes.

This.

ETA: Happened in high school once while I was rebuilding my cars engine. Forgot my keys and had to find a way in, one that would allow me to shut the alarm off before the police were called. Luckily the whole neighborhood knew me so they didn't worry about me crawling all around the outside of the house to find a way in.

Not far by car, about 10 minutes.  On foot, about 6 miles since i need to take a bike path instead of the freeway.

Yeah, I would have been on the phone with the dealership a few seconds after realizing i had no keys.

My next thought would be to find a dealership that has courtesy rides or cars for use while maintenance is being performed on my vehicle and it may take all day.

Just call the freaken dealer. Someone will run your keys over. Or call a lock smith. Or break into your house lol. None of your options are very difficult.

Do you have a deadbolt on every door?

I can credit card most doors quicker than I can find the key on my key chain.

You had a possibility of walking home when you dropped off your truck... And you still wore the wrong shoes?

Call the dealership and see if they can run your keys over to you...

Unlike you, I don't trust people with my keys.  If the car is being worked on they will only get the key for that vehicle.

I'm still trying to figure out what shoes are wrong.  Shoes are shoes and I realize that some shoes are made for specific purposes, but thats not really an excuse for being lazy.  Kinda like saying "well....i'm a zombie now, I would have run away, but I really wasn't wearing the right shoes...so I let that mother fucker eat me"

brush the sand out of your vagina, walk back get your keys, call them to bring your keys, walk to the library or someplace to hang out. Got a retired neigbor?

I don't remove the house key but I keep my vehicle keys on a separate key ring from my house keys and other keys.  That way anyone working on my truck only has access to that particular vehicle.  Guess I'm a bit paranoid too.

I don't even lock my back door. I live in a semi rural area, and though we are not immune to break ins here, whoever wants inside will find a K-9 trained Belgian Malinois waiting on them.

At my grandmothers house, the alarm went off, due to a battery issue not a burglar, I was there in two minutes––less than 1 mi away, and it took the Sherrif 10.

Forrest will greet any burglar in less than 5 seconds.

I dunno, it never occurred to me that capitalizing the abbreviation would change the unit. I learn something new every day.

I locked my keys in my truck one day and opted for a 7 mile hike through the dry waterways of San Antonio (Salado creek feeders). It ended up being a lot of fun. In the dry creek beds there is no vegetation to get in your way, and it was so quiet I couldn't tell I was in the city.
