Two excellent articles about America's latest political prisoner.

Quote:

To summarize, Burress is being prosecuted not for damaging another person's body or property, for which that person has filed a complaint, seeking restitution and/or damages; he's being prosecuted for not having a permission slip from the State to carry his own property. And the people who helped him get medical treatment are being threatened for not turning Burress in to the State for not having a permission slip and because the piece of his property, for which he didn't have a permission slip, involved in the victimless incident happened to be a gun; and for not cooperating with the State, once the non-crime came to its attention, in helping it gather evidence to prosecute Burress for the non-crime, and possibly to prosecute them for their involvement in the non-crime too.

I'm a pretty simple dude, but hasn't his 2A rights quite simply been shat upon?  Where's the ACLU to protect him?

Hax

If it helps our cause, then fine.

If he gets free while others sit in jail, just because he's a black football player, then its fucking bullshit.

Regardless of his status as a non-felon carrying without a permit (malum prohibitum), he still discharged a firearm within city limits (malum in se).

Sullivan Law in NYC, there are no 2nd Amendment rights in NYC. More than likely he is being made an example to frighten the New Yorkers that carry as to the jail cell that awaits them when they get caught. Go to a gunshop in New York and tell them you are a NYC resident, you will be treated like shit. The law is based on elitism, because there are people that carry in NYC, even the politicians that enforce the law, but since the elitists fear darker skinned and foreign language speaking peoples possessing guns and using them in self defense, this is what transpires.

The BS gun laws are one thing and need shot down; but he was reckless and he deserves to be punished for that.

I agree that it is bullshit. His second amendment rights were violated. New York's law is UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

It was an accident, how often do people go to jail over accidents?

When you rear end someone, do you even get arrested, no.  You get a ticket for crappy driving and pay for damages.

Is the DEA agent that accidently fired his Glock cooling his heels in prison for 2 years? I didn't think so. Burris should have gottne some type of fine, and that all.

What is a "Plaxico Burress"? Is it the name of a person, a mouthwash or a dental problem?

He could have almost accidentally someone in the night club. If someone accidentally you, wouldn't you want him to go to jail?

Fairly often.  In many cases negligence is a crime.  But admittedly not often unless someone is hurt or the property damage is high.

I'm as opposed to the state treading on our 2A rights as much as anyone else here is.

However, we need to pick our poster boys better than this.  Remember how embarassed the NAACP was when they went to bat for the 12 year old in Florida who killed his playmate?  They got him a lighter sentence, but he still ended going to prison for life because he couldn't stop committing felonies.
