A hunter who generally doesn't know or give a shit about what the real meaning of the second amendment is, or one that does, but is willing to throw EBR owners to the wolves in the the false hope that the gun banners won't come after his 30-06.

(My definition)

Fudd...

As in Elmer Fudd...

A derogatory term leveled at the crusty deer/duck-hunter community - the folks who fire 5 rounds a year, think no one needs anything but a 30-30 lever action and a 12GA long-bbl shotgun, and believe the AR is not suitable for hunting 'because it doesn't shoot a big enough boolit'...

It's a very childish and immature insult directed at hunters by arm chair commandos usually living in mom and dad's basement. It is used by defense rifle enthusiasts that don't understand hunters or the outdoors. They want other gun rights activists to stand with them on 2nd Amendment protection issues, as long as they can insult them at will. Instead of trying to build bridges with fellow gun owners, some of the mentally challenged would rather try to look cool in black rifle conversations. It's really sad, but these people are just as bad as the hunters that don't understand why people want rifles for defense and hurt the cause for everyone.

Last time I checked:

This house is owned by me.

I have hunted all my life and still do, with the recent addition of my son to the hunting fraternity I have 3 generations of us hunting together. Dad, me, son.

I've NEVER EVER have questioned anyones choice of rifle to hunt with.

I cannot however, say the same thing of some of my fellow hunters who don't shoot anything the rest of the year other than during deer season.

You sir need to pull your head out of your ass.

It sounds like you are much more stupid than that, you are preaching peace, love, and unity with a group of people who want the EBRs banned.

Any gun owner or hunter who promotes gun bans should be shunned, period.

Sorry, but...If you think the derogatory term "FUDD" is directed at hunters in general, then you havent been paying attention.
It is (as pointed out MANY times on this board) directed at the people who think the 2A is about hunting, and think anything but a good ole' huntin rifle is evil.

It should also be pointed out that it is the "FUDDS", themselves who brought it on.
They are the ONLY gunowners who say things like "There is no practical use for that AR15, nobody needs one of those, you cant hunt with it"..."Go ahead Mrs. Fienstien, ban those things...I cant hunt with them anyway".
That is the root of the polarization.

Then apparently your comprehension skills are just as bad as the reading skills. I don't recall any sight of the words "peace, love, or, unity" in any of my posts. Only the incredibly arrogant stupidity in dividing a group of people that aren't as strong as they need to be in the first place.

I do agree with your second point. Yes, all should be shunned that advocate or promote any gun ban. So should anyone trying to divide supporters of the fight to save the 2nd. A good start from our side would be to expose stupidity and ignorance at every turn from our side. Such as using petty, punk insults instead of actually doing something to educate those unfamiliar with the benefits of a defense rifle.

It doesn't matter what I think. But it does matter what hunters that occasionally lurk this board think when they see us insulting them. Have you ever thought that people that have never held a UBR may come here to see what they are all about? Then how does it look to be calling hunters Elmer "Fudds".

It's not fair, but in the real world perception is reality. If we're perceived to be bashing hunters, then in reality we are doing exactly that. Nobody's going to post your opinion of what a "Fudd" is on another board, or in a newspaper headline. Just the fact that we are separating ourselves from other gun owners. No different than what Zumbo tried to do.

TaterSalad, you do understand that not all hunters are being called Fudds, just the ones that for years and years have been calling us names. I'm 48 years old, have owned an AK47 and AR15 for well over 20 years and being looked down on is really getting old. I've talked myself blue explaining my side of the issue and even last night had a 40 minute talk on the subject with a hunter that fits the Fudd mold. The true Fudds have been selling us out for years and many of us have tried to convert them. There are also many hunters that have no interest in the Black Rifles but would never think of supporting a ban on any type gun. These guys are not the Fudds.

I understand that. I understand exactly what people mean when they use the term. My point is that the general public doesn't. They see it as an insult by "the radical" part of gun owners attacking "the sensible" side. That's the way it gets spun, and we lose. I've converted dozens of die hard "fudd" to the bone guys with just a mag or two. I've never made a friend or ally by insulting or belittling someone.

The only 'divide' is from the Zumbos and other Fudds breaking off from the herd in a preemptive bid to sell us out. If you are so concerned about 'education' and 'building bridges' or whatever the hell, why not go to a hunting board and 'educate' them about the differences between a hunter a Fudd?

Regardless, the MSM will never, and I do mean NEVER, weigh in favorably on EBRs and other Fudd Kryptonite. Never-ever. They will, however, take up the cause of the EBR-hating Fudds with the glee we are currently witnessing. That's my take on the issue as well. I don't hunt much but would never suggest that something is wrong just because it isn't my hobby. The hunters who would sell us out are acting all butt hurt because they are called Fudds, then expect us to just sit by when our hobby is called a terrorist activity.

I see clearly now. Zumbo insults us by calling us terrorists, so in mature retaliation we call hunters Fudds. That makes perfect sense. One good divisive insult deserves another.

And no one would have to go to other boards to try to explain why some gun owners insult them if it didn't happen to begin with.

Here it is.

Anti Second Amendment bad.

Hunting good.

Target shooting good.

Self defense good.

If nobody noticed, the AR is made in many calibers; many great for hunting.  No, all great for hunting.  Depends on what you hunt.

So there are many who do hunt with ARs.  If the gun rag writers don't acknowledge that, they are ignorant and should be treated as such.

As many of us have done, vote with your wallet.  It works.

And keep hammering those politicians with letters, emails and comments in the blogs.

Name calling only inspires more insulting words and division. See why it's a bad idea? It's counter productive to the cause...

'Fudd' isn't name-calling, per se, it is simply describing a subset of hunters.

Calling them 'Stupid bastards who don't know the first damned thing about protecting their 2nd Amendment right' is getting closer to name-calling, but since it is still fairly accurate, it stands. They are coming out of the woodwork, you know.

I think that there is a small group of hunter's that believe that there isn't any type
of sporting use of owning an AR, BUT at the club I have let some of those same guys shoot mine and they had smiles a mile wide after.

Putting a wedge between us can only hurt our cause not help

Shit some of the young guys at the club call me a fudd when I bring
my flintlock muzzle loaders to the range.

I think I shoot those more than anything else

I think what alot of people need to understand is that 'Fudd' doesn't automatically mean 'hunter.'

I'll repeat that because I think some people are missing what others have already stated in this thread.

'Fudd' doesn't automatically mean 'hunter.'

'Fudd' doesn't automatically mean 'hunter.'

'Fudd' doesn't automatically mean 'hunter.'

I own a couple of evil black rifles.
I hunt with evil black rifles of the proper caliber:  AR10 for bambi's & hogs, AR15 for yodel-dawgs, bobcats, etc.

They are a great conversation starter to educate hunters and they are a wonderful annoyance to Fudds, Zumbos, DDers, and various other idiots.
