Bought a new Dyson DC23 Animal.

Broke it in 45 minutes.  The brush head won't spin, and yes I took off the brushes and cleaned them.  Something inside it is binding it up.

FUCKING AWESOME $450.00 SPENT!

Bought a $30 walmart black Friday special 4 years ago, it's cleaned a 5000sqft house weekly since then, no problems.

Yes.  But if this piece of shit breaks in 45 minutes, I'm not sure I even want to bother with it.  I'm 90% tempted to take this fucker back to Sears right now.

I don't own one (I think they're over priced for what they are), but most people say nice things about them. Every manufacturer is entitled to an occasional lemon. I'd just get a new one, and not worry about it.

Picked a 80's vintage Hoover upright from a garage sale for $10, 15 years ago.

Still works great.

Funny enough, I have actually heard that the Dyson's have a tendency to shit the bed, but I've never used one so no real experience, sorry about your problem OP.

As far as vacuums go, dysons consistently score some of the lowest reliability ratings.   Roughly 1 in 4 vacuums fail within the first 5 years.  Likewise, Oreck and Electrolux have the highest reliability ratings.

You read that correctly...nearly 1 IN 4 Dysons fail within the first 5 years.  But they do work great...when they work.

I've had mine since 2008.

Parents had theirs since 2007. No issues whatsoever.
