Open-Xchange's tool for helping people reconstruct their Facebook
contact list on Google+ has fallen victim to Facebook's revocation of
its privileges.

Required tools:

  • Yahoo Mail account (you can even create a temporary one for only this purpose)

  • A Google+ account tied to a Gmail account for impor

  • Will not work if your Goggle+ is tied to a Goggle apps email.

Directions:

  1. Go to Yahoo Mail contacts tab.

  2. Choose ‘Import your Contacts from other accounts to Yahoo!’

  3. Choose Facebook.

  4. Click OK when prompted ‘Share with Yahoo!’ (enable popup to see this window)

  5. Import process will start. (This may take a few minutes if you have lots of friends)

  6. When finished, a screen will show XXX number of contacts imported.

  7. At this point, go to your Google+ account and see if you can get access to your Yahoo contacts under Circle-Find and Invite. Those not able to connect this way can move on to the next step.

  8. Click done and it will take you to the last imported contact screen.

  9. Check all and choose export to Yahoo! CSV under the Tools drop down menu.

  10. Export to your computer.

  11. Open your Gmail account.

  12. Click import contacts and add them to a new group with any name you want.

  13. Now go to Google+ and you should see the new contacts when you go to Circle-Find and Invite. (Note this will not work if your Google+ account is tied to a Google App email. It only works if your Google+ account is using Gmail.

And yes, facebook is very very scared. Unfortunately though, they have a deal with Yahoo! being able to export contacts into your Yahoo! contacts from Facebook. Then you just export to a CSV file and then import that CSV back into Gmail, easy as pie. Therefore this method will be here to stay, since I highly doubt Facebook will be able to redact this feature anytime soon.

This shouldn't be a surprise.

It's a competing business of a similar nature.

Why should they make it easy for Google+ to populate itself with all of it's userbase?

In a sense, I see it as similar to Arfcom letting another forum have it's member list.

If AwesomeTacticalGunz+ wants a userbase, let them grow their own the hard way, not just swipe it from someone else.

Ok, true, but these scripts aren't accessing any information that isn't already public to you via Facebook. If your friend puts his e-mail down in his contact information, I can simply go to his contact information, copy his email, and invite him to G+ unless he privatized that information. All a script does is automate the process so I wouldn't have to go to 500 peoples information tabs, and have to copy and paste 500 individual emails.

Public info is public bro.

I seriously doubt Facebook is scared.  Google+ sucks.

Course it is, and facebook isn't blocking it.

I don't see where it says they have to make it easy to pilfer all their users.

I do not know if Google + sucks or not.  I do know that Google's last two forays into a social media site bombed.

If FB is scared to lose people to Google+, then they're doin' it wrong by forcing updates on us like that incredibly fucking stupid chat sidebar.  Seriously, what is "better and more convenient" about a bar that takes up the whole right side of the browser window and shows offline users?  That's what the fucking friends list is for.
