[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Facebook casualties (Page 1 of 2)

Well, it's only June in an election year and had two 'friends' defriended me on Facebook this week. Most likely because of my support for Trump and the 2A. Oh well
Anybody else? |

facebook is srs business 64% of adults use facebook and 30% get news from Facebook. http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2014/09/24/how-social-media-is-reshaping-news/ Unfortunately, Facebook is serious business, and simply dismissing it will cost us big. |

I usually don't notice someone has deleted me until months (I assume, whatever) later I notice I haven't heard or seen someone pop up in quite some time, so I navigate to their page and see we aren't friends anymore. Usually I recall some discussion we might have had months ago.
I don't care past this, as it doesn't matter. They're the sensitive pussy, not me. |

I'm shedding friends akimbo on there. I hardly ever post there anymore, but I've been 2A/AR-15 carpet-bombing the whole damn thing for the past couple days. I think I've eliminated 4 or 5 in the last 2 days alone. Same here, this has really brought them out of the shadows. |

Facebook is nothing more than the creation of an evil, brilliant genius who figured out how to become obscenely wealthy by selling information about people who need attention. John Stossel came up with it before he did... it just wasn't an online version yet. FB started off as a virtual book of faces to get to know student groups. Stossel did it with a physical book, like a pre-yearbook. Obviously one has been more profitable than the other. |

Why the fuck are you on Facebook? To make it as unpleasant for liberals as humanly possible. I just pissed off a few family(wife's side) members this week(had one thumbs upping my posts while I eviscerated the other one over this Islam shit), I cant wait to see them at the 4th. |

Stock holders don't care why you are on it or not and probably neither does Cuckerberg they just care that you are on it. |

I had my cousin post this non nonsensical gibberish last night....
"We shouldn't have guns. Period. We shouldn't be shooting one another. Period. And we shouldn't even be killing animals for sport. You wanna disagree? Unfriend me now. I'm tired of trying to compromise logic and reason to make headway against people who cannot be reasoned with. I'm sick of law makers and experts and otherwise rational people making all kinds of exceptions and allowances just to keep the 200 million gun toting vigilantes who are being manipulated by greedy gun manufacturers from walking out in a huff while they try to impose even the barest minimum of regulation to stem the unending flood of innocent and unnecessary blood that's threatening to drown us all. Fuck you. That's what I have to say about all of this. Fuck. You. Hate isn't the problem. Hate is small. Willful ignorance, entitlement, and a lack of empathy. Those are the problem. Those are the things that we cannot seem to defeat. Those are the things that will kill us all, eventually" ![]() ![]()
I didn't unfriend her. I didn't argue or post anything either. Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer. Her posts are so out there I find them entertaining actually. I'll see her and her crazy as fuck liberal family at a wedding new years day. It should be quite entertaining. I had another crazy bitch from HS post this, "I hate the second amendment. Sorry, not at all sorry."
At least they are finally coming out and saying it, rather than the whole "I support the 2nd amendment, but you don't need an AK15/AR47 uzi machine assault launcher to kill deer!" BS. |

This is what I posted on FB the other night after a few cocktails...
"While you mindlessly scroll through a bunch or idiotic meme’s, I invite you to entertain your mind with a thoughtful well-articulated position. Unlike many today only concerned with being insulated by their own beliefs, I believe in the importance of thoughtful educated discourse. It’s the lifeblood of a healthy Republic and it is being lost in the world of social media. You are welcome to agree or disagree, however if you disagree, I hope you do so with reason, thought, and open mindedness. Though the event's in Florida are extremely tragic, with the 24/7 media these days it's sometimes important to gain some perspective. Unfortunately, event's like these are big ratings makers for news organizations as well as make for easy stump speech fodder by power hungry politicians. Most recently there have been a litany of news articles about AR family of weapons, the most popular rifle in the US which also happens to be used frequently by active killers as of late. Enacting a “ban” on these weapons may at first glance seem prudent, however lets first analyze what doing so might mean, and what realistic gain might come about. First, enacting an outright ban will likely cost billions, there are already several millions of these weapons already in the hands of ordinary Americans. Most will be unwilling to turn them in, either forcing law enforcement to go door to door (an extremely dangerous proposition, and I don’t believe they will be met kindly) not to mention that pesky 4th Amendment. Furthermore, a ban will likely create a dangerous black market flow of firearms and the associated organized crime to go along with it. Those that do get turned in will cost the government greatly in destruction costs, reimbursement costs, etc. There are roughly 20-30 million modern sporting rifles (AR-15’s) in the US. Let’s say the government decides to give $500 for every one confiscated (a low number) for 20 million rifles, that’s $10,000,000,000 in reimbursement costs, not to mention the costs of enforcement. The only other option is a ban that grandfathers firearms already sold, this does nothing except for cutting off demand and a relatively slight increase in price. This would be similar to the now defunct 94 AWB that expired. We saw a slight increase in price of rifles with “pre ban” cosmetic features, but no real change in availability. I could still buy a brand new AR, it just didn’t have a collapsible buttstock or muzzle device witch had zero effect on the practical firepower of the weapon. Now that we have mentioned the costs and what a ban might actually look like, let’s look at how deadly these things really are. In 2014 there were 11,961 homicides in the United States. How many of those were done using rifles of any type? (everything from Grandpa’s deer rifle to AR15’s) 248. That’s a little over 2% of homicides. 435 were murdered with blunt objects. These statistics aren’t made up, they don’t come from the NRA, they come from the official FBI website. The blunt object is apparently far more of a menace to society than the AR-15. Yet we are supposed to spend billions on banning it? Doesn’t seem so prudent or reasonable now does it? 33,000 is the average number of Americans killed in motor vehicle accident’s every year. Approximately 5,000 could be saved if people actually worse their seatbelts. Want to save lives? Start enforcing seat belt laws more stringently. (I don't really care much about people dumb enough not to wear their seat belt, but if politicians cared about saving lives it seems like a more fruitful cause, but that doesn’t get ratings or make for a good stump speech now does it?) I could debate for hours in the need of the 2nd Amendment. Why it is an essential freedom as important as any other we value as a nation, and why modern sporting rifles should still be considered protected under the bill of rights, but let’s be honest, I am probably not going to change your mind with regards to that if you don’t agree already. I would hope that however you would look rationally at the facts, and see that there are a lot better things we can be doing to prevent violence in our country than concentrating our efforts on a relatively rarely used in crime (but scary looking) firearm. There are things that both sides of the isle can come together and support that will have a meaningful impact on making us safer, but we aren’t. Why? Because the wool is being pulled over your eyes by politicians that prefer personal political gain under the guise of safely, rather than actual safely. Be a skeptic. Always err on the side of liberty, even if it might cost you a little safely." I am sure I didn't sway any die hard liberals, but I hope it swayed a few fence sitters. |
