Back in high school every 2 years we had a mock congress at the actual Texas state capital building for a few days.  We all have mock roles such legislators. lobbyists, reporters, and Governor, etc, etc.  Its all pretty neat.  The governor gets mock body guards to escort him and he gets interviewed by mock reporters and has stories run about in our mock news paper, etc, etc.  Well on about the third day we were there we were waiting for the governor to walk in so we could start our session.  He walks in everybody is standing and clapping and out of no where this guy runs up to him with a rubber band gun and shoots him and says something like "bang your dead!"  "I just assassinated the governor!"

This guy got in HUGE trouble.  They took him away and I never saw him again.  We heard that he was kicked out of the club and sent home at his expense.  Probably because it wasnt too long after 9/11.

I thought it was pretty funny.

Yet in the 60s that was a perfectly normal function of politics.
