| Anyone know of a good site to start researching family trees and whatnot? |
|
Lots of places to go to, but here is one for you: www.usgenweb.org/ |
| Ancestry.com is the largest, but can be expensive, although they do have some free content. Be sure to check out their free usersubmitted trees. There's a chance someone else has worked on your tree. rootsweb.com is a free website supported by ancestry.com, and might be a good place to start. Geneology.com is another one, but doesn't have the content that ancestry.com has. All of these are owned by MyFamily.Inc. familysearch.org is a really good one, and is free. It's owned and operated by the LDS church. I'd start with rootsweb.com and familysearch.org, as they're free. Use everything that they have first, then you'll probably have to go to paid sites. Also, check ellisisland.org if you're able to get back to when your family came over. I think that site is free as well. They only have the records of those that came through that port, so if you don't find them there, you may be able to find them other places. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. |
