What about Sheriff John Bunnell *smirk*.  The guy who was an actual sheriff for only SIX months, but milks it and still refers to himself as "Sheriff John Bunnell" in commercials for all kinds of stuff.  His FOX show "Wildest Police Chases" was found to be full of voice overs (i.e. fake helicopter news pilot, screeching tires, sirens, etc.) and supposed real videos, some of which turned out to be training videos...

Here is a list I found om Wikipedia:

Its a sham and a shame most of the above list seem to be movie stars, only sworn in for the advantage or perk it gives them. Kinda like Feinsteins ability to CCW while the rest of the unwashed masses cant.

As soon as I saw the title "Famous Cops", only one popped into mind...

....so famous they made a movie about him, and rightfully so.

Its truly ashamed I personally can name multiple dozens of athletes and only a handful of police officers. Those who should be bylines are cast as heros, and those who should be heros are unforgotten.

Jim Cirillo

"Jim Cirillo was a detective in the New York police dept who was bumped from being a firearms instructor (due to cutbacks in the department) and became a member of the spectacular NYDP stakeout squad. The squad was formed because there had been a series of armed robbery's at various business's in NYC that ended violently where the robbers would just execute their victims.

On his first assignment with the stakeout squad he got into a gun battle with 3 crooks trying to bump over a store. He hit all 3 perpetrators and was victorious. Jim was so please with the results of this gun fight that he went out and got in 17 more gun fights.  Check out his book, "Guns, gun fights, and bullets" to get the real feel for Jim Cirillo."

I have had the pleasure to work with him at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center.
