You may be a motor city kitty and dead wings fan, but your taste in MBR's is without fault. Go Sox, Go Hawks, Go Bears. Quoted:
GseriesFAL says FN FAL for the double win ![]() I changed my mind. Anything but the FAL.......... |

Quoted:
HK G3 goes bang every time without fail. They're so damn front heavy and complicated inside though. The fire control is lie a case study in excess complexity. I was glad when I got rid of mine. I liked it but it just wasn't what I wanted in a 308. ETA: Maybe I'm not mechanically inclined enough or maybe it seems worse in my memory than it really was...I don't know. It seemed overdone from what I remember. |

Quoted: M1 Garand. It's so much fun to shoot. yes, there are better choices for a combat rifle such as the M1A or FN FAL. But for sheer shooting fun, M1 Garand wins. I've got other rifles for serious SHTF uses anyway. Yeah. I'd have to say that the M1 is the rifle I've had the most joy shooting of any rifle. |

I love the M14 because I have owned one, torn it down, put it back together, named it Charlene....
I adored my L1A1, loved it, shot the hell out of it, and eventually traded it away in a fit of misplaced greed for something else I can't even remember... But I still can't understand how a FAL works. The M14, every movement, the lockup, the firing mechanism, it all makes perfect sense. The FAL ? I dunno. The bolt closes, I pull the trigger, it goes boom. Damned if I know how or why the bolt locks to the breech. It's kinda like magic. A mystery wrapped in an enigma. And coachwood.

With minimal tweakage, probably the M1A.
With considerable tweakage, the FAL .308 ARs had a problematic beginning, but the newest units show great promise. Assuming initial problems have been resolved, this is probably the wave of the future. As with many things, the most important component is the shooter. Period. The rifle, assuming it is reasonably accurate, and stone reliable, is entirely secondary. |
