I have 3 female dogs and 2 of them have suddenly started fighting really seriously. One is a cairn(4) and the other a mix of cairn/schnauzer and poodle(3). We just had the mix spayed and will be getting the cairn done too. The 3rd is a Westie(3) and she’s pretty submissive so stays out of it. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar situation? It’s probably that the 2 each want to be the dominant one, but the cairn is bigger, though the mix is faster. This means they both get hurt and it’s only a matter of time before one loses an eye or something. I’ll probably have to try to find a trainer but really don’t know how it’ll turn out. They’re all great dogs otherwise and I really don’t want to have to rehome one of them. Just a bit frustrated right now as I’m out of town and they just went at it again at home. They have to be kept permanently apart or they just go at it. |

Unfortunately you just have to let them sort it out. Keeping them apart is a solution but not the solution. Once dominance has been established it will end there. Also one being neutered and the other not has a big part of this. Once both are neutered things will get better. I recommend getting all three dogs neutered if you want peace. Also I’m no dog professional. Maybe talk to your vet. |

We had this with sisters. Box were fixed as well. Dog trainer explained that the females were 10% more likely to do this than the males. My wife could not bare getting rid of one so we keep them separated. It's a pain but we gave a large house/ property that works well. Both were getting torn up bad so we couldn't allow it to continue. It's a tough situation. I hope you can work something out. |
| Thanks for the replies. We’ll definitely get the cairn fixed too, but I’m thinking of adding shock collars and sitting between them while they ramp up then buzzing them. Maybe a few times of that will dissuade them from going at it. Then if they really get over it I’d remove the collars as I don’t want to overdo it. I’ve read a lot on this and just letting them fight might make it worse since they’re both super stubborn and might never give in. Will see what happens |

I think the hardest thing for good LE working for good agencies to really absorb is that there are whole departments full of exactly the complete fuckheads we rail against here. - vectorsc

That’s the idea and I’ve been trying that. They’re only fairly small, but they’re squirmy little SOB’s too. I’m going to try it again and just keep doing it til one of them gets the message and walks away, or I starve to death whichever comes first. |

Dogs arent going to necessarily know why they are getting buzzed. They're just are going to know that they are angry at each other and then they are experiencing pain, which could cause things to escalate which would be counter to your intent. |
