I need to build a fence at my house. Due to HOA restrictions, it has to be constructed out of treated wood. Post must be 6x6 and cross beams must be 2x6.
Several people have told me not to use concrete on the post because the frost line is so low here (alaska) and the freezing and thawing will cause them to heave. My plan is to use 10 ft post and bury them 4 ft into the ground. The hole will be 4 1/2 ft and there will be a 6" compacted layer of gravel. I will then fill another foot of compacted gravel followed by dirt. Does that seem reasonable? |
