30 Mbps down, 2 Mbps up... but it is only available in 16 states (MI isn't one of them though).

Does anyone know if SBC is offering a similar service?
It costs as much as cable internet but is about 5 times faster than my current service.

The 30 Mbps/5 Mbps package cost $180/month minimum.

It said 30 Mbps/2Mbps for $49.95/month...
Or is that an introductory rate?

You people need to stop taunting me with this.  SBC can't even get fucking DSL working in my subdivision, let alone 30Mb down.

I'm stuck with Comcast for the forseeable future.

You probably won't get much better than cable except for a few sites and something like bittorrent, because the lowest speed is the speed of the exchange. Hence, if you have a download of 30Mbps, and are downloading it from somebody with an upload of 10Kbps, your download speed for that particular thing is 10Kbps.

I don't know. I got the figures from the Verizon web site. Maybe SBC is less.

I think you'll get 30 Mbps down on everything except stuff like bittorrent or multiplayer gaming due to the weakest chain/slowest person online. However the lag times should be really low...
I think whatever modem you use for FiOS (or at least a translator/transmitter) will definitely need at least a 100 Mbps connection to your LAN for full bandwidth usage, the 10 Mbps connection on Cable/DSl won't cut it.

Feedback from Verizon fiber users has been overwhelmingly positive. Unfortunately it's no availabe in my area, neither is DSL. All we have is Cox cable, ugh...

You're right. I was looking at the 30 Mbps speeds at the 15 Mbps price

I have it.  $44.95 a month, 15Mb/s down, 2Mb/s up.

On the "verizon" speed tester, I get 15Mb/s.  However, I can only seem to get 10-11 Mb/s on any other speedtest or real world download.

Still, damn fast.

MI is in the "future development" phase of FiOS, but I'm planning to switch over and go with a dish for TV.
