First you find a big fig tree.

with bunches of ripe figs.

Mash 'em up and add some sugar.  I added a box of strawberry jello to this batch.

Cook for a bit and add to half pint jars.  Profit!

mine didn't make a damn thing last year because of the drought

this year it looks "better" but only after i waged war on the hackberries that were trying to overrun it

had a little fun with that, used my deuce to pull them out.  when it still ran anyway

That is beyond awesome.  I love figs, fig preserves, etc.  I'd love to just have one small tree to make a jar of that.

Our problem is between the birds and the dogs, there aren't many figs left for us.
Do you have any idea how bad it is when a Boston Terrier fills up on figs?

I imagine that could spell disaster for an inside dog.

The birds, bees and ants get most mine.  The biggest problem is that my tree never has more than a few ripe at any one time.  It produces all summer but never very many ripe all at once.

Blackberries are a different story.  I picked almost two gallons yesterday and will get about that much more in 2-3 weeks.  Maybe I'll try to make some wine this year.

Well, they do clean the pipes out for sure.  I won't eat any plum except a Japanese plum though, those things rock.

I have a small fig tree, but never get any figs. It puts them on every summer, but then the leaves turn yellow and fall off, as well as the still green figs.

I love figs. We're hoping to plant several dozen fig trees this winter. We planted one last spring - on top of a hill - and it's pretty puny-looking right now.

I can not imagine adding more sugar to the figs I got this year.  Unfortunately - fig season all but ended 2 weeks ago here.

We have had the best luck with protected trees - I really don't think they like to grow in the open.  My grandmothers was the most open one we had - and it was under pecan trees - The one next to the barn was blocked on one side, one next to the house ditto, one next to warehouse, ditto, the one next to my brothers cement 8' privacy fence ditto - I lost 3 that were unprotected.

OP, that sure brings back some good memories from my Mawmaw's house.

She had 3 or 4 really nice fig trees and us kids would pick them and Mom and MawMaw would make fig preserves just like that.  Had lots of mayhaws and blackberries on the riverbank, we'd pick those too.  A couple times a year we'd spend the whole weekend helping them make preserves.

Good times.
