Had an application or windows crash that gave me a blue screen error (Photoshop CS2 / Windows 2000). Rebooted and when I restarted Photoshop I found that some important info was gone. Did some snooping and found the location of the file that stored the info, and instead of a large data-filled file there was a default empty file in its place. Best guess would be the original was corrupted and then photoshop replaced it with a default file on starting up.
Any chance of recovering any data from that original file, or a previous/cached version? This is on the system drive/partition so lots of read/write has happened since the event. I have an old version of the file that I recovered from a backup disk but it's missing about a month's worth of somewhat critical work. I can redo the work but I'll miss a deadline |

I have to also ask...
Will this work for my sisters computer????? It is her school computer so it is kinda important. It crashed and on restart I just says "operating system not found." It also makes a funny noise, (not loud, but internal, and I know it should not be there.) Will this program or any other course of action allow her to recover her course work (she only has it partially backed up). Thank you for any help.... |

Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile OS is toast and/or hard drive is failing. Boot from a live CD and see if you can get the needed files from the HD, copy them to a USB drive or something. If that doesn't work I'd recommend Spinrite to see if it can restore/recover the information on the HD in order to see the files you need. |

Can you guys tell me what a "live CD" is? I am currently focusing more on Medical terms as such (along with some gun technical terms) and am not to familiar with computer stuff, they just exploded lately with how much stuff they came out with. |

Ubuntu just released a new version, discussed here -> http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=124&t=864595 Download link here PC Linux OS is a little more "windows like" Download links here Your computer will have to be set up to boot from the CD, it may or may not be set up that way now. Have you ever accessed the BIOS settings on a computer? |

This is my sisters senior college year with less than a month to go and hope to help her recover her stuff... I appreciate any help. |

rstudio is your friend. http://r-tt.com/ Got R Studio and gave it a shot. Very interesting program. No luck finding my missing file though, tried a variety of searches and just nosing around places that I thought might be productive. I went ahead and restored my month-old backup.... "and so it begins...." |
