As of this morning I will no longer be shipping to Parris Island on an Open Contract. I finally got my Intel contract, so I will be shipping on a DD contract I am so freakin excited it only took 6 months to get too. So super fast... that last part was sarcasm but Im glad I finally got it and all I have to do now is not slack too much on the PT and then ship to PI.

Congrats on getting the MOS you wanted.

I'm curious, what did the current MOS list look like as far as available spots?  How long do you wait to ship to PI from when you signed your contract?

considering the time of year i can bet there arent alot of spots open for most desirable MOS's, especially 03xx. From what i heard recently, Poolees with AD contracts can be waiting up until almost a year to ship out. Reserve is alot fast, i have seen Reservists ship out a month or 2 after they went to MEPS. I could be wrong though so who knows.

All i know is that they are reducing their numbers in the Corps as a whole and people are getting booted out left and right and denied reenlistment. Dont give them any reason to fuck with you. This also makes recruiting even harder because the standards have skyrocketed. You can be DQ'd for just about anything now.

EDIT: OP congratz, good things come when you wait. Just do yourself a favor and dont get dropped for any reason in Boot or sent back in training or you will most likely lose your MOS. That means avoid BAS, take care of your body, and dont be a hero or do anything that might get yourself hurt. Trust me, you dont want to end like those kids who end up staying in PI for 5 months, or even 9 ive seen once. Injuries, sickness and being a pussy will hurt you. I had Bronchitis on top of some other shit during my time and i couldnt even breath or talk for a month. BAS would have dropped me if i went. If you go there even with the smallest shit, if they see a potential thread hindering you from training, they will drop you into medical and you will be sent back into training with a NEW company and NEW platoon and with NEW people that DONT know you and WILL hate you.

So on that note, you WILL get sick as fuck, thats just how it works. You are in a swamp which is a breeding ground for germs, not to mention a mixture of people all over the country into a tight area. You just need to man the fuck up and deal with it. You will know when its coming, because when you rack out, you will hear the coughing.

Not a scare, just a warning. I know you want your MOS bad so take my advice as it is. Ive seen people lose it.

Re-read this.  I got through the middle seven weeks at PI utterly miserable with a raging chest crud - and I went about a month after you will.  You do not want to be at PI for a nanosecond longer than you have to.

Not sure what the MOS outlook is, I know the fiscal year is coming up so boat spaces should b freeing up but they are gobbled up quickly. Infantry fills up first then Intel after that I dont know. My shipdate is staying the same so at the current moment I am 62 days out from the yellow footprints.

And to Zero thanks for the advice, I have heard horror stories from some people. Dont think I am going o bitch unless i am literally dying or have cellulitis then Ill stay away from the Corpsman.

Speaking of Cellulitis, when you DI says "Stop scratching your face".....STOP SCRATCHING YOUR FACE. That shit is no fucking joke. I had a kid develop that shit overnight and had to get it surgically removed from his fucking chest. Shit looked like a tumor. Just wash you body every night no matter HOW cold that damn water is. You can get that shit anywhere at any time, but you especially dont want it on your face. Its the number 1 health issue that gets people dropped. If you had little time, which you will, make sure you wash ALL parts of your body that looks like it might have an open cut, bug bite, or scratch. Also your balls, armpits, groin and face most importantly.

I know i said dont go to BAS for anything but if you think you might have cellulitis, tell your DI and he will get it taken care of. BAS should take care of it and you will be put right back into training with the same platoon. If you wait to long and try to hide it then it might grow into something worse and they will drop you until you heal.

On another note, dont let them scare you with that "Moment of Truth" bullshit. Keep your head down and dont raise your hand for anything. Also if your DI's still dont know your name after a few weeks, trust me thats a good thing. You still wanna try and step up so that in the end you get good Pro's and Con's and possibly a promotion. Guide and SLers who last long usually get promoted at the end.

Awesome thanks for the advice. I already have my PFC Im not sure if theyll grad me as a Lcpl I have heard of it but I hear you have to be the top of the totem pole to get that.

I wasnt sure how they did the Moment of truth they already know about the MJ usage I had admitted to a couple times usage thats one of the things that took my contract so long to come in.

Promo to Lcpl usually is the Top graduate of the company.

As for the Moment of Truth, all they do is sit you in a classroom with your head down and they tell you some BS about how if you dont tell them things, they will find out anyway, the FBI knows everything, you will be kicked out with a Dishonorable, wont ever get a job, and will be on your record for life, if you dont tell us now and we find out later. Its all BS head games, they just want to weed out the idiots that DO raise their hand and are like "Oh well this one time..."

Trust me you will see alot of them because they will be scared shitless.

Whatever you wrote on your papers at MEPS and/or told your recruiter and what he wrote down, is all you have to stick too. The Liason will also say the same shit to you, the day you go to boot camp and sit in MEPS for 4 hours before your flight. Dont tell him shit either.

Anything that cant be traced, they will never know or care to find out. They will tell you that they will call all your friends and family and they will be forced to tell them the shit you did in the past. Yeah, no thats all BS. Only thing they will know is what you told them and what they found out on your background check or medical records.

Dont be the one

EDIT: Where you went wrong in the first place is when you admitted MJ usage. They dont need to know that nor will they ever find out about it if you dont tell them. Sure they ask but all you have to say is NO.

"Open Contract" sucks ass.  My squad leader in boot was an OC recruit.  He had a lot of heart and lasted all the way through boot camp getting thrashed on a daily basis by the Drill Instructors (he, the other three squad leaders and the platoon guide).  He was promoted to PFC upon graduation.  Excellent leader, good attitude.  Very intelligent.

They made him a cook .

Aye, Aye Sir (when in doubt, all the time)

Not that I am worried about the Poly but I am certainly hoping thats how it is. Id be sweatin bullets forget my name and all that good shit. But to superduty I believe it is in the pre reqs., but i dont think it is manditory apparently not if some have gotten the clearance without the poly.

Ive heard if you have no criminal bakground (outside of speeding tickets) then there is no poly. obviously i dont know but thats what i hear.

ETA:

http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/generalinfo/a/security2_4.htm

Are polygraph (lie detector) tests required?

The use of the polygraph for any Department of Defense program is governed by DoD Directive 5210.48 and DOD Regulation 5320.48R.

A polygraph examination is mandatory for employment by or assignment to the DSS and the National Security Agency (NSA), and for assignment (or loan) of DOD personnel to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). It is also mandatory for some SCI and SAP access programs.

Additionally, the polygraph may be used for any other personnel security investigations to resolve serious credible derogatory information, and then only with the consent of the examine. No adverse action may be taken solely on the basis of a polygraph examination that indicates deception, except upon the written finding by the Secretary or Under Secretary of Defense, or a Secretary of one of the military departments, that the classified information in question is of such extreme sensitivity that access under the circumstances poses an unacceptable risk to the national security.

Polygraph examinations may also be used to supplement investigations of federal felonies, of unauthorized disclosure of classified information or of alleged acts of terrorism, or when requested by the subject of a personnel security investigation, for exculpation with respect to allegations arising in the investigation.

The DOD regulation details the exact manner in which the examination must be conducted. No relevant question may be asked during the polygraph examination that has not been reviewed with the person to be examined before the examination, and all questions must have a special relevance to the inquiry. Certain "validating" questions may be asked without prior disclosure to establish a baseline from which the examiners can judge the validity of the answers to the relevant questions. The probing of a person's thoughts or beliefs, or questions on subjects that are not directly relevant to the investigation, such as religious or political beliefs or beliefs and opinions about racial matters, are prohibited.
