I am interested in getting a carbine made by IAB Arms in Italy. Unfortunately, the company that used to import the rifles, EMF, isn't offering these carbines any more. The only other company that the manufacturer indicated was importing stuff won't import the model that I want. I was wondering if my FFL could order what I am looking for directly? Can any FFL have a firearm imported or does it require a special import license or something like that? Any suggestions? I'm interested in a 1874 Sharps Military Carbine. I know there are other manufacturers but IAB had/has the best price of all of them and they seem to have a good reputation as well. Thanks! |

They'd have to go through the importation hassle. I think it's a Form 6. Here's a webpage with some info on it: http://www.gunbroker.com/Support/SupportFAQView.asp?FAQID=1110&NoCount=1

Black powder? metallic cartridge? I know cap and ball, and most black powder is not considered a firearm. No 4473 is needed. Might make it easier. But honestly, i've never imported anything. So i cant' offer any real useful advice....

Importing isn't as hard as people make it out to be. I brought about 20 guns into the country and its just a matter of filling out the form and getting it sent off to the BATFE for their stamp of approval. The form may come back with stipulations but as long as it isn't a military type gun there shouldn't be much. The hardest part will be arranging shipping. I hand carried all of mine. |
