I like the bucking bronc from a pure aesthetics standpoint, but you just CAN'T pay homage to your closest rival. If I were a Cody student and saw that design on a Powell shirt I would certainly do some trash talking!

You're an art class--redesign that cowboy riding a bucking panther. |

I like the tigers..
And not to be a namby pamby, but guy running Dremel should have leather work gloves on. Get a few sets of Mechanix thin leather gloves or Chinese knock offs to share when working with power tools. Otherwise a parent might flip out when their kid has to get even a band aid, let alone stitches if something slips. Should be with jigsaw and X-acto/utility knives as well. I know it's annoying (getting them to wear safety gear), the accidents always happen when "I was just going to do a quick cut and thought it'd be safe". Also, the dreaded un-stylish safety glasses look good and normal as well as the un-stylish gloves. If you get the better gloves that aren't like welding gloves so you can still feel what you're gripping they might be more willing to wear them, and every rip in one is just an oops that saved that much skin from being savaged. |

For the parachute risers, in the last foot, pair them up by cutting off 1/3 of the threads making up each string, then re-twist together. Then an inch or two later, take two of the pairs and pair them together the same way, removing 1/3 of the threads and re-twisting the last 10". Then repeat as the threads turn into a cord then into a thicker rope. Basically this, but upside down, ignore the numbers, it's the structure for how to put all the risers merging into a single harness at the bottom without having a big bulge. The put a drop of candle wax on it or re-warm candle wax if already applied to lock it together for when cutting away 1/3 of the thread diameter is cutting a couple of the original threads entirely there's still that whole last foot of other threads holding on to keep it from flying loose. |

The Spray foam works quite well when the other option is "swap in new". It is far more porous than the thin cells that you're used to, and some of the internal bubbles can be pretty big. It will rasp down just as well and since you usually go over it with FRP or paper mache it should work just fine. Make sure it has enough time to fully cur so you don't break the skin of it then end up covered in goop that doesn't come off, especially if it hits clothes.
Some "Combat RC" Foam planes use it for repairs when the streamer is missed but wing hit. |

On the slurry nozzle, can you sand down/fill the impressed circles on the flange? Really makes it look like it should be in a bathroom instead of an airplane.
I know I whine about it too much, but there's nothing else for me to pick on, you guys are nailing it. |

My wife reminded me that in 1988, our cabin(owned by her parents at the time) almost burned in the Big Horns. She told me how the Forest Service dropped slurry on it to keep it from burning. She recalls everything being pink.
She wants my kids to include that in the display. After some thought, this could be kind of a cool little addition. My buddy thinks it should be a 3D model and not just a painting. We will see if there is a place for it. Maybe under the mural of the slurry bomber? |

I feel bad because I never stopped to read the small memorial plaque next to Meadeow Lark Lake up in the Big Horns. I've driven by it thousands of times through my life growing up in the Big Horns. I've stopped next to it on countless rides down to Deer Haven Lodge.
It's a memorial to the lost firefighters from Tensleep who parished in the Blackwater Creek Fire in 1937. A picture of it came up when we were researching the 1937 fire. My students think we can include this near our tower. Maybe a small model of the memorial. |

Me, my wife and my 8 children attended a family reunion in Glenwood Springs CO in June 1994. A month later 14 firefighters died just a mile or so away from where we all gathered together.
I've never forgotten that "we were just there", and then suddenly some brave souls were not. |

So Hoodies aren't going to happen? Just checking.
BTW, something I think you might find cool. Star Island My Grandparents used to volunteer out there, and their kids (my Mom among them) did as well. Gets really nasty out on the sea, but its really cool. They recently added solar so they have power now, but all the old structures including the cisterns and stone library are still there and up. The hotel burnt down but they've rebuilt it. Really, really cool place. I've been once and plan to go back this summer (takes about an hour by boat). Just thinking historical stuff and one that my family is connected to. Let me know if you are curious about more info, I think I have some photo's around from my last visit. |
