I haven't seen fireflies since being a kid living in NC.

I just took the trash out and the woods next to our new house is a lit up with them.

Brings back a lot of memories.

Another random GD thread turns into a Firefly thread.

Inara was the hottest.

I've only seen them 2 or 3 times in my life. Once was as a kid at summer camp along the Guadalupe river in TX, and a couple times on the North Shore of Lake Ponchartrain in Louisiana. The last time I saw them I thought I was having a stroke or something until I realized what I was seeing.

My father nearly killed my cousin and I when we caught hundreds of them and let them loose in the house.

Nothing is as entertaining as a warm summer evening in a backyard filled with fireflies, and a whiffle ball bat.

Not showed up here, but when they do, they are in full force.  Oh, we call them lighting bugs here

It's too bad ya don't see them like you did 30 or 40 years ago. I'd bet there are kids and maybe some adults who have never in there life seen them

I've wondered about that. I don't see anywhere near the amount of kinds of insects I used to see.

We don't have em out here in Washington. When I first started driving long haul I was running down a little two lane in Indiana and ran through this cloud of bugs, I thought I was going nuts seeing all this fluorescent shit on on my windshield.

I always see them when I go camping along the river in New Braunfels. Don't see them in Houston but if you do drive a ways out you can spot them. They're very fun to watch.

Mine, too.  It's a bit early for them here, but in a few weeks, we'll see them.

I fired one out of a pellet pistol once. It made a cool glowing splat on the ceiling.

We had them in northern Illinois when I was a kid 60's and 70's.  Fill up a coke bottle with them and give it a shake.  Or hit them with badminton rackets and watch the sparks fly.
