I'm in an interesting situation.

I have a firewire REV drive for backup and I purchased a new server and it doesn't have any standard PCI or PCI-E slots nor does it have any firewire ports.

There is no such thing as a firewire to usb adaptor, the technology cannot support that conversion.

I found a combo USB/FIrewire hub but I've heard bad things about them and they all seem to actually connect to the computer through firewire and not USB.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I should do next? (besides dumping the firewire REV drive of course)
Thx

Dell Poweredge T300

It has the following slots:

One  PCIX slot
Two  PCIe-x4 slots
Two PCIe-x8 slots

Short of finding a card that will add firewire to it you are S.O.L. The firewire/usb combo hubs don't perform a conversion it just hooks up one or the other I have one of those here in the store that I tried out awhile back and it didn't work.

Looking forward, yes.

With my current situation that will do nothing.

can you slap the drive in a usb external chassis?

Or you could buy a case that has the I/O  you desire and throw that drive in it.

I called Dell and they have a $55 PCIe-x1 firewire card.

PCIe-x1 works in PCIe-x4 slots so I think that's the route I'm taking.

The one above @ Cyberguys is $20 less.

Right, but 3 years from now if the servers having problems I don't want to give Dell a reason to point fingers at another hardware manufacture as the possible cause.

If there's one thing I learned about server's its that you want all your hardware bought from one company so they take full responsibility for any issues down the line.

The first thing all these companies try to do is place blame elsewhere when there's a problem and the server is so many years old, for $20 I'd rather not give them that opportunity.
