I've been looking to pick up some spare 5.56 firing pins.  CDNN has two bushmaster sizes in stock; one is noted as oversized .330 diameter.

Standard

Oversized.

My research has shown me the difference in M16 and AR15 firing pins, but what is the difference here?  What is the standard diameter supposed to be?

It's not the size, it's how you use it...

It shouldn't make any difference, unless you have an "unshrouded" bolt carrier and notched hammer. Then you need the firing pin with the small collar, or else the gun will jam.

Thanks for getting things back on topic.  What you have provided is the info I found regarding the M16 vs. AR15 firing pins.  The ones I'm looking at on CDNN look identical with regards to collar size.  I'm guessing the oversized pin has more mass?

...and if you have one of those unshrouded ones, consider replacing it.

I measured the firing pin in my spare psa bcg and it would appear that the collar is close to .330, so I guess that's the measurement.
