I have been setting fun money aside for a while towards a Tudor or Rolex. I am not knocking Rolex, but for whatever reason it has been really difficult for me to justify spending Rolex money. Affording one isn't the issue it's purely emotional. To that end, I have been very interested in the new version of the Black Bay 58. I decided to go by an AD in town to look at what they had in stock. I really liked one of the 58s. I was going to walk around some more to think about buying it when they told me about a financing offer they had. 20% down followed by 30 months at 0% interest. No penalties. No fees. So now most of that money I set aside is still making me money. My wife was standing right there and made me do it! I am very happy with my gateway watch. Attached File |

You probably know more than I do about watches, so maybe this is for someone else. There are many cool “features” in top watches, but the most expensive “feature” is luxury branding, brand stories, brand respect and brand provenance. As you can see, none of those tell time, but some brands align to the features I list below: Basic features like shapes, complications, waterproofness, metal type, weight, case size & shape, band/bracelet, pretty good accuracy, lume, screw down crown, etc are all pretty cheap. ….like $50 - $1000 Stepping into chronometer ratings, trained service people, titanium, skeleton movements, Swiss manufacturing, hard coatings, fancy leather, cool dial work can cost $400-$2000 Add advanced finishing, some kind of inspiration, popular brand, anti-theft/counterfeit features…$800-$10000 Add the expensive features and you can see $1000000. Notice how this pricing makes no sense. Something often not discussed is most high volume movements are bulletproof reliable daily wear ready….Tudor, Rolex, ETA, Seiko, Sellita auto movements are all pretty durable. There are fancier movements cost more due to low volume, are expensive to repair and have high failure rates. So, my assessment. You bought a great watch. A Tudor represents the pinnacle of great watch making without overpaying too much for the brand. They have some excellent styling and are respected by all but the poorest nose up watch snob….basically the guy with the F91W who talks crap about all the watch brands in popular culture! My watch of the day is my Casio GWG2000. Basic quartz, cool styling, multiband 6, some extra toughness, lightweight, huge, screens I can barely use! It has a story, right…..rough tumble and ready for anything. I like that for traveling with the family! |

Good looking watch. I’m in the same boat, want a Rolex and am on the list supposedly but I’m so tempted to just go buy a Tudor and be done with it. They are incredibly nice watch’s and are a good value for their price. I’m going to see if they have anything at the duty free in Amsterdam when I’m there in November. |

Congrats and great buy! Love the five link bracelet! I have been staring at Tudors for years need to just pull the trigger. I have a small watch collection but still drawn to their dive watches even having some Rolex already Save that interest you’re making towards the next watch |
