Hey guys,

Ive been playing with Photoshop and many 3D apps for a long time. I knew these combined applications were possible (3D and 2D composting) but my tinkering with them was very limited. Well, today I sat down for three hours and decided to give one a try. Actually redid it, too. Learned a lot from the first time thru. I would love to hear what still looks shitty (short of the post processing) and any tips for those of you have have done things like this before. I'm very familiar with rendering and somewhat familiar with photography (still learning my D80) so I would hope things require less Photoshop after the main render!

Nabbed a lot of zBuffer stuff too, but that's not really necessary to show. Zonda rendered in 3DSM. Photo taken on my D80. I would be happy to post the source files for those that would like to try compositing (model, scene, photos, my composite documents).

I guess what Im trying to figure out is... Does the Zonda look like it was there when the photo was shot? I know the photo doesn't look too realistic given all the post processing, but that will lessen after much practice... I hope. What would you change if you had both cars on the driveway for a real photo?

Thanks.

looks cool but i would have expected it to be bigger since it's closer.

Not knowing the actual dimensions of the two vehicles... I'd say that my initial reaction is similar to the above poster... I'd think the rendered vehicle would be larger due to perspective.

It's obviously not a telephoto shot (which could partially/completely negate perspective distortion), so you should probably find a model of your "real" car and place that in 3ds to gauge size/distance requirements.

The only other thing that popped right out to me was that the shadows seem to be at different angles (slightly)... that, or I'm just not able to distinguish where the bottom of the vehicle is and the shadow starts. So my mind could just be misinterpreting what I'm seeing w/ the shadows.

3ds does an awesome job of allowing you to precisely measure & size objects, chose focal length of your lens, etc. I'd say that some tweaking with the technical side of things would make this hold up better to scrutiny.
