Plenty of competition here.
You have BrightHouse, the cable company. Then you have Verizon FIOS, which I have. Then you have DirecTV which will also give you a deal on a DSL line for internet. There is also of course Dish Network and I think a couple other satellite companies where you can get TV and satellite internet. You can also get satellite TV and get your internet via your cell phone company. |

In areas where competition is allowed the cable companies are great.
In areas like where I live the politicians have signed away the rights of the people to competition in the cable and telephone industry and we get the "we don't care, we don't have to" mentality. -Gator |

The great thing about cable is, you don't need it.
I pay for internet because I need it for work, and in this day and age, it's almost mandatory for news, communication, etc. I won't pay to have 9000 channels of jersey shore bullshit. Net flix, red box, and Xbox Live fulfills my media needs. |

Yes, most cable companies suck.
On the other hand, I HATE when people compare internet speeds in a place like South Korea to those here in the US. South Korea has 50-million people in a country slightly larger than Indiana. SK averages almost 1,300 people per square mile...the US averages 89. Of course it is easy to get everyone there connected to a high speed connection...they're crammed in there like sardines and don't have to run lines to the middle of nowhere Montana. |

FIOS for the win! High speed inter webs, cable with multi-room DVR for life and home phone. Hunnert bucks a month. I pay $75 a month for 10mbps and I'm one of the "lucky" ones who can get it. Most folks in my town only qualify (geographically) for 6mbps that slows to under 1mbps during peak hours. |

My isp has zero competition and despite being expensive, also charges me a fee because I only purchase internet and not their cable package along with it. Damned if I do, damned if I don't. |
