I am finally looking into getting a nicer watch however, I am not sure what's a good sub 1k dive watch. I know I like the Rolex Submariner but I don't have 5k for used one.
I am trying to stay under 1k or right around. I have looked at both of these Resco and Squale I like the Resco but I wouldn't use many of the functions it has and it's also I don't believe anyway a widely known brand. I like the Squale but I am not sure how I feel about how close it is the the Submariner design. Any thoughts on the above watches or similar ones |

Check out Lum-Tec. I have their 300M watch that is my boat/fishing/water/beater watch.
Lum Tec Any way that I wear in salt water always gets a fresh water bath at the end of the day, and I've had no issues with it. |

If I wanted a dive watch in that price range, I'd do one of the following:
1) Seiko. Most likely an SKX007 K2 on a Jubilee bracelet. There are a few other mechanical Seiko diver's I'd consider as well, though. Even on a jubilee, these look pretty 'toolish', and not dressy at all, if that's a consideration. 2) Squale 1545. A full-on homage to Submariner (which I agree with you, Submariner copies that aren't a Sub sorta furrow my brow). Very nice build quality with an excellent ETA movement. 3) Steinhart. More Submariner homages, but they also have more unique variations like the Ocean One Titanium which is a departure from the Sub, aesthetically (sword hands, 6 O'clock date, different chapter ring, matte/ bead blasted case finishing). 4) Sinn. I doubt you'd find much in the way of Sinn divers at that price point, even in the used market, but figured I'd mention it. The EZM3 on Sinn's rubber strap is very cool, and unique in the realm of divers in this price range. These look 'all business', pure tool, not dressy at all. |

I've had the Squale Y1545 Maxi you have linked above, OP, for about 9 months now, and still like it very much. It's a Submariner style watch. Rolex makes great watches, but I just don't want to spend that kind of money.
Here's another option I just happened to stumble upon: http://www.countycomm.com/sr3mid.html Looks quite nice. I assume the movement is good, but don't know much about the Japanese movements. ETA: Agree with above post regarding Sinn watches. Haven't owned one, but maybe someday. |

I have a Rolex Submariner and love it. This is a Y Series I bought in 2003, the last series with the push-through bracelet lugs before Rolex went with the closed lugs (old school style). http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/jj634/eburch01/Rolex18_zpsc5089913.jpg I also have a Seiko divers which is a great watch in its own right. Both watches are fun to have and wear. [http://i1271.photobucket.com/albums/jj634/eburch01/Seiko1_zps7e8ff237.jpg The Rolex Submariner is a classic....I own newer ceramic 116610....some purist don't like the beefier lugs but the watch wears as nice as anything I own.
