Saturday I participated in my first tournament. I entered the forms competition. In my experience level/age group there were seven of us. I was the only white belt. I came in third, which means I beat four other guys who held higher belt ranks. I figured that didn't give me any cause to complain. When I entered the building there was a line. As I was standing in line I saw that there were three tables with signs that said, "Spectators", "Registration", and "Pre-Registered." The line came stright in and curved toward the "Pre-Registered" table. Since I didn't pre-register, I stepped out of line and headed to the registration table. As I'm giving the lady my form and entry fee I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned and this guy is saying, "There's a line here, you know." I pointed to where the line went and told him I didn't pre-register. He replied, "Neither did we." He was ticked at the impression that I had jumped the line somehow. When I stepped into the ring to do my form, he was one of the judges!!! Oh well!!!!!!! I wonder how I would have fared if I had bought him a cup of coffee that morning! |
