Ok so I just got my first sandrail project. It needs work but I got a good buy on it. $400 Comes with an engines, seats, seat belts, turning brakes, just about everything to get it running. I can't wait to start working on it.

anyone got any advice/warnings/words of wisdom for me? Any suggestions as to what I should do with it beyond getting it running and enjoying it?

I think a camo pattern would be hard to paint on a tube frame....

and while I would I just can't afford a maduce... semi auto or auto.... would be made of win though

Build a Megaforce Destroyer. You know you want too.

It's not a dune buggy, but the wife and I bought a shifter kart frame last month at a garage sale. Were looking for a wrecked 2-stroke 125 or 250 now for a motor donor The dune buggy looks like a fun project!

They are tons of fun... but make damn sure the seats are bolted in good and you have a good 5-point restraint system. They will toss you out like a pissed-off mule.

use good primer and paint on the frame and    POWDER COAT ALL  the suspension parts, rims, springs, EVERYTHING . The cleaner look and easier maintenance will pay for it time and time again. You can do most of it yourself with a 150 dollar gun and cheap used electric oven.

I wonder if you could rig up a motorcycle engine to that frame?

If you could rig up a heavy flywheel of some sort and then beef up the clutch, I bet it would work.

that would be more problems than what it's worth , VW motors are a dime a dozen , easy to work on and upgrade , and plenty powerfull enough . not to mention air cooled , which keeps everything really simple.

You can get a complete rebuild kit for the 1600cc motor for 350 bucks , that's with the jugs/pistons/valves/everything.

People out here go gaga for those things, I've seen them sell for over $20,000! Some people and their money, heh. I bet their a blast to ride around in, though!

Start by adding air to the tires.  Then worry about the big stuff.

I just noticed it comes with a flag pole, too.
