ISLAMABAD (Reuters) – The governor of Pakistan's central Punjab province, a senior member of the ruling party, was shot dead by one of his bodyguards in Islamabad on Tuesday, plunging the country into a new political crisis. Interior Minister Rehman Malik said, citing initial reports, said Salman Taseer was killed because of his opposition to Pakistan's blasphemy law. Rights groups say the law is often exploited by religious extremists and ordinary Pakistanis to settle personal scores. Islamist groups have been angered by what they believe are government plans to change or scrap the law. The shooting occurred as Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani tried to muster support for the government after a leading partner withdrew from the coalition over fuel price policies. A witness said Taseer was stepping out of his car at a shopping area when he was shot. "The governor fell down and the man who fired at him threw down his gun and raised both hands," said the witness, Ali Imran. ..................................................... The fuse is lit. wwIII began this morning. |

Expect pre-emptive action from India.
Tinderbox + Religious Extremists + contested real estate + Nuclear weapons..... All the ingredients are there, and the timing is spot on. . . . Remember a dude named Archduke Ferdinand, lived in Sarejevo, until 1914? Yeah, like that, except with nuclear weapons, and this morning., |

Pakistan can implode and it will not start WWIII. Pakistan goes Radical Muslim=US takes its nukes (or tries and fails)=Pakistan goes after the US troops in AFG=India goes after Kashmir=Other Islamic countries get involved=China decides that the furball in the ME is good distraction and goes after Taiwan=NKOR decides now is the time to try out their latest nuclear toy on SKOR=Japan comes in to side with SKOR. That is as far as I can take the logic and it has SOME basis. |

They are barbarians in the modern world and killing is their pleasure.
If they are not killing us they are killing themselves; but they are dedicated to killing which they believe their religion commands them to do. The veneer of self restraint is as as thin as an onion skin in their world. "Live and let live" is alien to them. |
