One of my best welds

And yeah, this is actually me. My professor and lab tech are really awesome with me about how bad I suck. They know I am the only guy in the entire class who hasn't even seen someone weld before. They respect the fact that I don't want ANY signoffs until I do it perfect, and that I want to do it right. So I copied the test and filled out the whole thing with the most ridiculol answers I can think of, and am giving it to them as a symbol of my appreciation. That was just a snippet. Good times.

I once saw a hicky on a hemorrhoid that was much prettier than that |

Axe a man that has undergone the light sabre treatment to the natal cleft anything. ![]() WUt? Welding injury? One of my many welding related retard moves.. After about 6 hours running a TIG torch I had an itch near the strap of my hood on my right temple.. So I stopped the weld, lifted my hood and scratched the itch.. With the tungsten... A just seconds ago 9,000*F needle sharp tungsten will leave a neat zig-zag wound if it meets skin and scratches an itch... And it doesn't hurt... At first |

Welding isn't that hard. Your probably trying to hard or are too much of a perfectionist.
Stick welding likes a clean surface and a nice 45 degree angle pulling the arc in a semi circle pattern. Same with MIG but all angles work for the most part. I like fast and hot. It works for me. TIG. I'd love to learn it. Brazzing? Not even going to try that. Too much going on. Do you have a welder OP? Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I am currently in 111, Oxyfuel. And they are not letting us touch anything else until it is perfect. Which is how I like it. I take a micrometer to my welds. No signoffs until perfect thank you. Gas will teach you a lot about how metal reacts and what it does as it melts.. Good for learning TIG (GTAW) After that you will most likely never use gas for anything but heating and cutting in a professional field.. |

I always seek out deep thinkers when I need somebody to make "this" stick to "that" and make sure that I can't break it apart with a hammer. |

I inherited a Victor 100 torch set and lifetime lease cylinder set from my uncle when I was a teen. Taught myself oxyfuel. Picked up GTAW in an afternoon in college, working on my senior design project (Mechanical Engineering). It is the only process I need for my hobbies. |

Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Frankly, I take offense (lol) to the statement that welding isn't that hard. I have never had much aptitude for anything mechanical, but I absolutely love it. It took me two weeks just to get a decent butt joint that was passable. My arms shake, I forget to breathe, and oscillating the torch with one hand while dipping the rod with the other is an exercise in laughs for anyone even remotely coordinated. Though I was three for three on my vertical last night which made me happy. Two weeks to sign off on flat butts, 15 minutes to sign off on vertical butts. Odd. No, don't have a welder, wish I did. I put up some craigslist ads and am pestering my instructors trying to find a way to get some extra practice out of regular class time. 6 hours a week isn't enough for me. Brazing is next, and like you, I am not looking forward to it. TIG is basically my ultimate goal, which is depressing based on my oxyfuel performance. |
