What's the attraction? My uncle used to take me fishing on Lake St. Claire all the time when I was a kid. To me fishing means getting up early and going out on a boat to spend a day baiting hooks and catching Carp and Sheephead throwbacks with the occasional Walleye mixed in. |

I ll tell you my attraction to fishing. When I was a boy , my dad wasnt home much cause he drove OTR trucks. But when he was home, we fished!! now that im older, when I get up at 4:30 on a sunday morning , drive to the lake with NO traffic. Put the bassboat in the water with NO ONE around, I could be the last man on earth and honestly, its my time with God. Last summer I was tooling along (cant go fast in this area) going to my spot , its 5:30 ish just enough daylight to see the shore, , Im daydreaming lost in the peace of this world I have entered, when not 30 FEET away from me a Bald Eagle (the first I have ever seen in the wild) swoops in , snatches a shad out of the water and flies away. No one and I mean NO ONE else saw this. Just me . I was privileged enough to see a truly majestic animal do something beautiful and awesome and I didnt have to fight crowds or listen to assholes . It was like God himself told me , all is right with the world. I think about that alot now. Its winter, Im cooped up inside , but my lake and my time with God on that lake is waiting for me. I consider it heaven. |

Should try drifting and putting out and pulling in a 300ft net. We only put up around 70 or so king salmon. But catch a bunch of others. |

I love it. As others have said, it's less about going and catching fish, and more about getting the fuck away from everyone and everything. I used to fish bass tournaments. Too much expense, stress, and hassle. I wasn't having fun.
Sold my boat, hung up my bait casters, and took up smallmouth fishing on the river with light tackle from a canoe or wading. I'm thinking about taking up fly fishing. My smallmouth spot occasionally yields a nice trout as well. I've caught trout on 1/4 oz mepp's spinners and 8lb line. I have a few gently used Shimano Curados (old style) that I'd sell if anyone were interested. |
| For me it is the adventure. When I was a kid, I picked up fishing on my own since my family did not fish. I saw a map of waterways in the area I lived. I used to pick a creek from the map and then get dropped off or ride my bike to the spot and start bushwacking and fishing. I was always amazed at how small of a creek the bass would survive in. I would fish with an ultra-light spinning rod and a small Rapala and often fish into darkness and have to walk a long way back. Now I exclusively flyfish for trout with mostly bamboo rods but I stll find myself walking way further than I should to see what is around the next bend. Depending on where I go, the trip could involve long hikes, mountain biking, rattlesnakes, rock climbing, swimming and reading the terrain to find a spot I have only seen on a USGS map. People ask me how I can spend sunup till sundown fishing and how I can't get bored. I just get in a zone and all I think about is the fishing and everything else is put on the backburner. |

If you dont care for it its because its not your thing or you dont catch much. to me it is a way of life and a science. When i fish I catch plenty because I take the time to do the math if you will.
This does not mean i catch tons of fish every time just that i am in to fishing and not drowning bait. Regardless of the out come i always enjoy it. Especially when i am sitting over a plate of fresh trout, Mahi or grouper. |

Hunting on water, Yeah BABY!!!!! Fishing is fun. If you see it as boring your are not doing it correctly. I once caught a 305 Lb 4 oz Halibut It was awesome and something I will never forget. Here is my fish tail. The guide we hired put me and my fish on his brochure. |

Quoted: Cobia yay striper season is really starting to kick in here in va beach. went wirelining over the tube past the third island a few weeks ago. hoping to go back out next next week and drift some eels at the highrise portion of the bridge/tunnel. the speckled trout are starting to get pretty active in the elizabeth river as well. i find it enjoyable to be out on the water with friends, shooting the shit, and reeling in fish. even if you don't catch much it still beats being at work.

| If I could, I'd spend every waking moment on the water or standing on the ice. By myself, or with my son and father, those are the only ways I really enjoy fishing. Don't even need to be catching anything. But there is nothing comparable to a fresh-caught perch dinner. |

I fish 3-5 times a week. Heck, i built this house in this location because it gives me access to three boat ramps within 5 miles.
I'm spending the 22nd of Dec to the 4th of Jan fishing. That's my Christmas season. I have three power boats and three kayaks. Each bought for a specific fishing style. I have everything from ultra light fly rods to tuna rigs. Yep, I've got it bad. Sadly, I've gotten to the age and physical condition that the wife won't let me go solo any more. Esp in the kayaks. I got started for the same reason. My great-grandfather was not allowed to go fishing alone either. That's why he took me along starting at about age 7. To help find the body.

Quoted: Fishing is Life Itself !!!!!!! Yep. For me my Dad started the addiction. At first I found it boring as hell but still went out to spend time with my Dad as a kid. Then once I started to get an understanding about what it is about, I started to find it fun. Just sitting out with bait on a hook waiting for a bite drives me insane, that's why I love bass fishing so much. ETA: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=10&f=13&t=604264&page=8#i10912304 |

I consider it heaven. You summed it up pretty well. I actually prefer fishing in a canoe because you see a lot more. A few summers ago I was in a canoe on a small lake with my BIL. Nobody esle was on or even near the lake because it's part swamp. We got to a corner and were fishing around a dead tree when all of the sudden the most wicked screech came from above. We both looked up and saw a bald eagle 20 feet over our heads, resting on a branch that hung over the water. I saw another eagle this last summer while canoeing down a river. It's just magical to observe nature, knowing your getting to see things that not to many other people get to. |
